Although in recent years, SpongeBob SquarePants has been getting mixed reviews from its older audience, it is clear it's still well-received by younger viewers. Also, with the series getting two new spinoffs in the distant future, it is apparent SpongeBob is not going anywhere. This will require the show to create new content, which definitely can be quite challenging after so much time.

Yet, there is some beauty to this news. There have been so many marvelous characters over this show's history, so giving them larger roles is beneficial. There are so many characters that the show could create new stories for, especially ones who are just not seen enough. Given the fact that SpongeBob interacts with everyone in Bikini Bottom in the series, there is nothing holding the showrunners back from doing this.

Even if some of these characters have only been around in limited roles, it still would be delightful to see the series explore them more.

Larry The Lobster

Larry The Lobster is a character who definitely has moments in the series. Yet, the show utilizes him far less than during the early episodes of SpongeBob, which is honestly kind of disappointing.

He is a very memorable character, as his large personality and muscles make him a very popular member of the community. His moments with SpongeBob also are always quite hilarious, so there is no harm giving him more storylines.

Mrs. Tentacles

Mrs Tentacles yelling at Squidward in Fools In April

The series does not take too big of a dive into Squidward's family life, so seeing more of Mrs. Tentacles might be interesting. After all, fans want to know where Squidward got his personality from.

It is apparent the two also have a nice relationship with one another, so this series should ultimately explore this. There is a lot of potential for some riveting storylines involving Squidward and her. Perhaps even Spongebob can tag along, too.

Bubble Buddy

Squidward, holding a drink, staring resentfully at Bubble Buddy in episode of same name

SpongeBob creating Bubble Buddy is such a wholesome part of the series, as all he wants is a new friend. It would be so fun to see this connection come back a bit more, as the second episode with him is spectacular, too.

Given the fact SpongeBob is the literal creator of this living being, it would be curious to see him attend more events. Also, perhaps he could strike up a friendship with SpongeBob's best friend, Patrick.

Squilliam Fancyson

Squidward, next to Squilliam Fancyson, shocked to see SpongeBob and other bandmates in Band Geeks

The one-sided rivalry between Squilliam and Squidward, which the former is clearly winning, is one of the most underrated dynamics of the series. These two are extremely in common but cannot stand each other, which is hilarious.

Also, Squilliam is just such a unique presence in Bikini Bottom, as he successfully brings a new level of class to it. However, he is quite arrogant, too, but it still provides a lot of entertainment when he is around.

SpongeBob's Parents

SpongeBob's parents at his house

Although SpongeBob has his own home, it would be fantastic if his parents Harold and Margaret SquarePants came around more often. It is apparent they are both nice individuals, while also providing a great element of humor with their spousal dynamic.

SpongeBob seems to never engage with his family anymore, and this sadly includes his own parents. Perhaps them being around a bit more could help provide some much needed guidance for him.

Harold

Harold snaps and insults Mr. Krabs in episode Band Geeks

"Well, maybe we wouldn't sound so bad if some people didn't try to play with big meaty claws!"

This line alone from Harold is extremely memorable and warrants him to receive far more attention in the series. He is a bit of a tough guy in the background, even in episodes besides this one.

With background characters such as Fred getting more attention, it would not hurt for Harold to get this same treatment. Perhaps he can take issue with Mr. Krabs' big meaty claws again in a future episode.

Man Ray

Man Ray cackling evilly in Mermaid Man vs. Sponge

Man Ray is a very engaging part of the series. Besides the fact he is an enemy of the infrequently seen Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, the show does display small glimpses of his character as a regular person.

The show should opt to explore this more, as he does possess some likable characteristics at the end of the day. Also, he has many memorable scenes, such as Patrick and the wallet, that shows he is capable of being as hilarious as he is fiendish.

Princess Mandy

Princess Mandy from the SpongeBob movie

Princess Mandy is a huge part of the first SpongeBob movie, but from there, she has been nonexistent in the series. This is so disappointing, as her character plays such a massive role in SpongeBob and Patrick's successful journey in the film.

Seeing her return to even a recurring role seems very unlikely, as the film is over fifteen years old now. However, fans can still wish for it, as this is a cool character who sadly is never given much of a story other than one supporting the main characters.

Stanley Squarepants

Stanley working at the Krusty Krab

Stanley SquarePants deserves a recurring role, as he is nothing short of hilarious. Although he is very clumsy and causes destruction at every turn, he possesses a similar personality to SpongeBob's, as he is very kind.

Seeing their connection grow in the series would be nice, as the two could have some fun adventures in the process. He definitely is an underrated character when it comes to fans of this show, too.

Scooter

Scooter as an angel at Goo Lagoon

Scooter's legendary laugh warrants him more spotlight in the main or spinoff series. His presence is more known during earlier seasons of the flagship, but he is not showcased as often at this specific time.

He definitely is another background character who could have quite an intriguing story, as he is so entertaining and fascinating. Also, nobody will ever forget him flying away as Angel, as his legendary laugh meshed beautifully with the angelic tune in the background.
