A brand-new gameplay trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake shows off the platformer's unique settings, intense gameplay and memorable voice cast. The upcoming underwater adventure will see SpongeBob and his companion Balloon-Patrick navigate various themed worlds using the plucky protagonist's spongy abilities. Developer Purple Lamp Studios previously created SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, with The Cosmic Shake serving as a spiritual successor to the 2020 remake.

Due to the Nickelodeon character's immense popularity, SpongeBob SquarePants has appeared in many video game projects over the years. Prominent titles based on the crusty cartoon series include 2001's Legend of the Lost Spatula, 2002's Revenge of the Flying Dutchman and 2007's Atlantis Squarepantis. Outside of official SpongeBob SquarePants games, the yellow hero has also appeared in various Nickelodeon crossover games. 2000's Nicktoons Racing, 2005's Nicktoons Unite and 2021's Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl all saw the aquatic icon join his fellow Nickelodeon stars for animated adventures. As a follow-up to Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, the upcoming game SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will take the absorbent and porous hero on another platformer quest.

A brand-new gameplay trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake has been posted to YouTube by THQ Nordic. Taking clear inspiration from Purple Lamp Studios' Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, the demo sees SpongeBob and Balloon-Patrick attempt to save Gary from a monstrous sugar rush and rescue Squidward from prehistoric foes. With players soaring effortlessly through the air and fighting with their trusty jellyfish net, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is clearly an evolution of its spiritual predecessor. The title's masterful voice acting, lively animations and fast-paced platforming promise to make the upcoming title a Bikini Bottom blast.

While the remake managed to remain extremely faithful to the original 2003 version, a new multiplayer mode in Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated saw Purple Lamp Studios build upon the original game. The 2020 remake added a brand-new horde mode to the title, which lets two players work together to defeat waves of robotic enemies. This mode includes content cut from the original Battle for Bikini Bottom, including a new Patrick dream sequence and a fight against a robotic Squidward, indicating the developer's ability to create new content for The Cosmic Shake.

As a follow-up to Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake looks to capture the essence of the Nickelodeon series while delivering timeless platformer gameplay. The show's original voice cast makes a triumphant return, too, ensuring that the quirky title plays like an interactive episode of SpongeBob. While no release date has been set, fans of SpongeBob and 3D platformers should keep an eye on SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
