Since the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants has been on for so many years and has so many fans out there, many are familiar with the main characters and their personality traits: Patrick is not the brightest but is a true friend, Mr. Krabs is obsessed with money, and SpongeBob himself is a bubbly and friendly character.

Some of these traits may remind viewers of characteristics that are found in well-known Disney characters, as this magical world is also full of dim-witted, greedy and outgoing characters and then some. That being said, here are SpongeBob SquarePants characters and who they might "play" in a Disney movie or TV show.

SpongeBob As Olaf

SpongeBob As Olaf

The star of this series is celebrated for being optimistic, kind and fun. He spreads cheer wherever he goes, and can easily entertain himself, whether he is watching television, flipping burgers, catching jellyfish, or just playing in a box. On the other hand, though, he can be a bit immature and sometimes too silly and naïve.

This sounds a bit like Olaf, the snowman sidekick from Frozen. He is another character who is happy and friendly all the time and who appears to be oblivious to any of life’s negativity (for better or for worse). Both also share a deep devotion to their friends and barely know how to function without them.

Patrick As Goofy

Patrick As Goofy

Patrick Star, SpongeBob’s best friend, may not be described as a genius, but he is always up for a good time. And he and his BFF can often be found blowing bubbles, fishing for jellyfish, and using their imagination for hours of innocent fun.

This may remind some people of Goofy, a classic Disney character/sidekick. He is also not the brightest bulb, but he is a true pal, one who is always ready for any and all adventures with Mickey, Donald, and the rest of the gang. Patrick and Goofy are also both seemingly impervious to insults, which is good as they both are the frequent recipient of them.

Squidward As Rabbit

Squidward As Rabbit

Squidward lives next door to SpongeBob and Patrick and is often annoyed by their childish behavior. He considers himself to be sophisticated, as he is interested in the clarinet and the arts. But he can be selfish, he is a bit bumbling, and he sometimes finds himself wrapped up in SpongeBob’s misadventures, even though he acts like he wants to avoid them.

His Disney counterpart may be Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh; this character likes order and likes tending to his garden, yet he, too, finds himself surrounded by his friends’ chaos, which upsets him and leads to some harsh words and actions. The two are possibly the grumpiest characters in their respective universes.

Sandy As Basil

Sandy As Basil

Sandy Cheeks is an athlete, a scientist, a Texan, and a squirrel who lives under the sea thanks to her air suit and her domed home. The star of The Great Mouse Detective shares some of these traits, minus the aquatic habitat.

Basil of Baker Street— a rodent parody of Sherlock Holmes— is a detective who seems to be in pretty good shape, who conducts science experiments and who is as determined and tenacious as Sandy. They are each the "brains" of their respective ensembles, no doubt.

Gary As Toulouse

Gary As Toulouse

Up next is SpongeBob’s pet snail, Gary. Though the only thing he can say is “meow”, he is a sharp character who is into music and literature as well as eating and watching TV.

This sounds a bit like Toulouse from The Aristocats. This kitten is fascinated with tough alley cats, though at home, he spends his time painting, playing with his siblings, and eating.

Plankton As Mr. Snoops

Plankton As Mr. Snoops

Throughout this series, Plankton is regularly shown trying to steal the recipe for Krabby Patties. He has some intelligence and some handy gadgets and resources, but he also comes up short— literally.

His counterpart could be Mr. Snoops from The Rescuers; he tries to be a big and bad villain, but he is actually just a scared and insecure little guy, and the real antagonist and brains of the operation is Madame Medusa. Not unlike...

Karen As EVE

Karen As EVE

The real brains, when it comes to antagonists on SpongeBob SquarePants, is Karen, a supercomputer and Plankton's manufactured wife.

A Disney female computer is EVE, a.k.a. Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator. In WALL-E, she comes off as tough and strong, as she works to get the job done. As the story progresses, she falls in love with the title character, showing a softer side.

Mr. Krabs As Scrooge McDuck

Mr. Krabs As Scrooge McDuck

There are a couple of more characters within this underwater tale, such as Mr. Krabs, the owner of The Krusty Krab. And those who have only seen one episode know that he is obsessed with money.

That should sound familiar to Disney fans, as Scrooge McDuck is often seen literally swimming in money. As Donald Duck’s uncle and Huey, Dewey and Louie’s grand-uncle, he is a well-off character who is always looking to accumulate even more wealth.

Pearl As Lottie

Pearl As Lottie

Mr. Krabs’ daughter is Pearl, and while she is not featured all the time, her scenes show that she enjoys shopping at the mall, that she is into cheerleading, and that she can be a bit dramatic.

A possible counterpart for this teen is Charlotte "Lottie" La Bouff from The Princess and the Frog. as Tiana's best friend, Lottie is also into fashion, is bubbly, and has an over-the-top personality.

Mrs. Puff As Flounder

Mrs. Puff As Flounder

Finally, there is Mrs. Puff, who can be found freaking out while helping SpongeBob learn to drive at boating school. Another nervous fish is Flounder, Ariel’s sidekick from The Little Mermaid.

And while both of these characters can be supportive and kind, they have anxious habits and seem pretty fearful, overall.
