A collector’s edition of the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, called the BFF Edition, has been announced. The next SpongeBob game is an interdimensional platformer that will take the player into several alternate realities. The game is set to release in 2023.
The Cosmic Shake was originally revealed last year by THQ Nordic during the company's 10-year anniversary showcase, and will see SpongeBob exploring seven diverse worlds accessible via interdimensional portals. Trailers released so far have shown the world’s favorite sponge exploring a variety of unique settings alongside his best friend Patrick, who has taken the form of an animated balloon. The Cosmic Shake follows the release of Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, a remake of the original Battle for Bikini Bottom updated and released for all consoles in 2020. Rehydrated was also released for iOS and Android in January 2021.
Now, ahead of The Cosmic Shake’s 2023 release date, THQ Nordic has announced the new BFF Edition to accompany the regular version of the game. This collector’s edition features a variety of exclusive merchandise showcased in a new trailer, first and foremost being a 9.8” (25cm) tall Cosmic Victory Statue, which features SpongeBob singing in his ‘Sweet Victory’ outfit, as well as Patrick in the air (or water) behind him. Interestingly enough, a face can be also be seen at SpongeBob’s feet; it seems that the sponge is standing on top of a defeated enemy in order to give his performance. It is fairly common practice for a collector’s edition to contain a special statue like this; the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage features a statue of Basim, for instance.
Cosmic Shake BFF Edition Offers Fun With New Toys
In addition to the Cosmic Victory Statue, the BFF Edition also offers fans a set of four bouncy balls, which are transparent and contain miniatures of SpongeBob wearing outfits from the game. There is also an inflatable Patrick, measuring 19.7” (50cm), a BFF amulet on a necklace, and four placemats. There will also be a Costume Pack DLC included with the game. The entire package should be a treat for SpongeBob fans, albeit for the steep cost of $249.99. For those interested despite the high price, the BFF Edition is now available for preorder for all major platforms. In any case, until the game releases fans can still have plenty of fun with SpongeBob elsewhere, including a Minecraft DLC pack that transports SpongeBob and friends to the blocky world.
As with any collector’s edition, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake's BFF Edition will be of most interest to the biggest of fans. Between the inflatable Patrick, a clear nod to the in-game version, and the impressively detailed Cosmic Victory Statue, the BFF Edition contains plenty of things for hardcore SpongeBob SquarePants fans to enjoy. The inclusion of costume DLC is another welcome perk; being able to dress SpongeBob up in even more costumes is sure to go down well with players. The Cosmic Shake promises platforming fun, and this collector's edition will likely enhance the experience for hardcore fans.
