During IGN's Summer of Gaming, developer 1047 Games revealed that its portal-filled free-to-play shooter Splitgate will come to PlayStation and Xbox consoles later this summer on July 27. The title launched on Steam back in March 2019, offering up a multiplayer experience like no other. Finally, console players will soon get to see Splitgate's portal mechanics in action for themselves.

Developer 1047 Games participated in IGN's Summer of Gaming showcase by unveiling plans to bring Splitgate to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms on July 27. The release date trailer that accompanied the news confirmed the cross-gen shooter will boast cross-play functionality between consoles and PC. Furthermore, Splitgate's console version will launch with over 20 maps and more than 10 game modes in tow. IGN also received word that 1047 intends to host an open beta from Thursday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 6. Check out the announcement trailer below:

The online sci-fi shooter boasts its fair share of intriguing qualities, with a robust map selection that includes research facilities, gladiator-inspired stadiums, and underground missile bases. However, the most fascinating aspect of the experience has to be the portal mechanic, which players can plant on the map for quick navigation purposes or to get the drop on unsuspecting opponents.

Billed as a "Halo meets Portal"-style adventure, Splitgate was developed by a group of Halo fans who reached for the stars when pursuing their passion project. Their hard work seems as though it may soon pay off in spades, too, given the excitement surrounding the console release trailer.
