Fans of the Tom Clancy video games just received their first look at Sam Fisher in the new animated Splinter Cell series from Netflix. The streaming service is currently hosting a free five-day virtual event, called Geeked Week, which is aimed at giving fans new trailers, exclusive news, and more. Geeked Week has showcased some of the latest and greatest in entertainment news, and it is now on its final day (June 11).

The video game franchise first started with the original Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell game, which was released back in 2002 by Ubisoft. Over the years, the protagonist, Sam Fisher, who is a highly trained agent for a fictional black-ops style team, has fought adversaries across a series of different battles and campaigns. Once considered Ubisoft's flagship franchise, the Splinter Cell video game series has sold over 31 million copies, though a new installment has not been released since 2013. The video games were so successful that they even spawned a popular series of books of the same name, starting in 2004 with the novel Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Now, it Netflix is trying to get in on the action with a new animated series.

During their Geeked Week, Netflix revealed a first look of Sam Fisher, through their Netflix Geeked Twitter handle, in the new Splinter Cell animated series. The image features a single shot of an animated Sam Fisher wearing night vision goggles on his head and a military style uniform that is splotched with blood. In addition to the image, Netflix also announced that the creator of the John Wick franchise, Derek Kolstad, is currently onboard to write the new animated series. View the full tweet below:

The new Splinter Cell series has been in development for quite a long time, though not much is known about the plot or how it will tie into the video games. In interviews, Kolstad has talked about his level of excitement with the project, and how he's interested in tackling the subject matter through an animated lens, which allows him more freedom to experiment with different ideas creatively. Kolstad has also mentioned that each season of the series will be "self-contained" and exist outside of the main character's overall evolution. With fans eagerly waiting for the new series, it seems that a single first look image may not have been enough to meet their needs.

Even with the announcement of Kolstad writing the new Splinter Cell series, fans of the video game franchise took to social media to air their grievances over the lack of information. Throughout the week, fans were teased with the prospect of learning new info about the animated series. So, when Netflix simply dropped the single image showing the title and a shadowy version of Sam Fisher, many fans felt a little let down, especially considering the fact that no new installment of the video games has been announced since 2013. With the series still a ways off from airing, Netflix will need to offer more details soon for Splinter Cell in order to appease the fan base.
