A new Splinter Cell is allegedly coming in 2021 as stated by Sam Fisher’s Italian voice actor. Another rumor regarding a new Splinter Cell surfaced in September 2019 and was spread by GameStop, though, nothing was confirmed by Ubisoft. The most fans have seen of Sam Fisher since 2013’s Slinter Cell: Blacklist was his appearance in Ghost Recon: Wildlands, where he participated in a Special Operation mission with the Ghosts.

The possibility of a Splinter Cell reboot entered the rumor mill in 2018, manifesting from the accidental listing of a game on Amazon Canada. However, nothing substantive resulted from the rumor, as Ubisoft remained relatively silent on the matter. Datamined leaks also point to Sam Fisher being the next playable Operator in Rainbow Six Siege as part of Seasons Three and Four, with Season Three presumed to be launching sometime in September 2020.

In an interview with multiplayer.it, Sam Fisher’s Italian voice actor, Luca Ward, said a new Splinter Cell is coming in 2021. While Ward’s information is not an official Ubisoft announcement, nor has it been confirmed by Ubisoft, Ward is confident the franchise will be returning in 2021. However, the project is currently in a limbo state, despite Ward’s confidence Splinter Cell will be returning next year. The voice actor also mentioned the franchise was supposed to return in 2020, but a lot of projects “got stuck” while others, such as Cyberpunk 2077 (in which Ward also provides his voice), continued.

The alleged new Splinter Cell was delayed from 2020 to 2021 due to coronavirus, according to Ward. "I am sure that Splinter Cell will return, that is a fact,” said Ward (as translated by Google). The voice actor has provided information on a new Splinter Cell in the past, though, his information was inaccurate. However, Ward commented he always gave away information “based on evidence actually in his possession.” With the appearance of Sam Fisher in The Division 2’s Episode Three as an Easter Egg, however, and other rumors inside Ubisoft, Ward claims the production of a new Splinter Cell isn’t an unreasonable assumption. Ubisoft has not confirmed any of Ward’s information.

Fans have been craving a new Splinter Cell since the launch of Splinter Cell: Blacklist in 2013. While the appearance of Sam Fisher in crossovers is a fun prospect for gamers, especially since it lends credence to multiple Tom Clancy titles taking place in the same universe and timeline, crossovers pale in comparison to a full, authentic experience. If Ubisoft wants to do right by fans of the stealth master, it needs to give him a new, modern spotlight, whether that comes in the form of a sequel or a reboot.
