Nintendo wants every Switch owner to try its new competitive multiplayer shooter, Splatoon 3, and it's giving away a free Nintendo Switch Online trial for anyone who signs up for the upcoming August 27th demo. The colorful and fast-paced third-person multiplayer shooter has gained an impressive following since the first Splatoon launched on the Wii U in 2015. Its captivating art design and engaging gameplay helped fans grow a soft spot for the game's paint-slinging Inklings.Unlike other popular shooters like Call of Duty or Apex Legends, Splatoon pits two teams of four against one another in a contest to see which team can shoot more paint over the multiplayer map. After its initial launch, more multiplayer modes, weapons, and maps were added with consistent free updates. The first two games in the series were released on the Wii U, a Nintendo console that failed to sell as many units as most of the company's other systems, especially the Switch. That said, Nintendo is making some moves that should help many players try out Splatoon 3 before its September 9th release date, even if players don't currently have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.Related: Splatoon 3 Direct's Biggest RevealsA seven-day free trial for Nintendo Switch Online is being given away for any Switch owner who signs up for the August 27th Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo. As reported by Life Hacker, the announcement was posted on Nintendo of America's Twitter account soon after the Splatoon 3-focused Nintendo Direct. The multiplayer demo will take place on August 27th from 9am to 9pm PT. Because Nintendo now charges a fee to enjoy its online multiplayer features, a membership is required to participate. After downloading the Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo, an email should arrive with the 7-day free Nintendo Switch Online trial code that can be redeemed as soon as August 25th or as late as August 31st. Besides access to the multiplayer demo, the free trial will allow players to enjoy the online multiplayer modes for the games they own. The subscription also includes access to a wide selection of classic NES and SNES games.

All Switch Owners Are Welcome To Splatoon 3's Splatfest

The Splatoon 3 Splatfest demo will include multiplayer matches with new weapons, abilities, and even a new mode called Splatfest Tricolor Turf War Battle. The new alternative take on Turf War has three teams batting in a 4v2v2 format that is sure to shake things up for even veteran Splatoon players. The new game will have other modes than PVP multiplayer with the return of Salmon Run, allowing up to four players to battle hordes of enemies and intimidating bosses. While the game's most popular modes are only playable with online membership, Splatoon 3 will also feature a single-player mode dubbed "Return of the Mammalians."

Inkling was one of the first new characters to be announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's impressive roster. Even so, the popularity of Splatoon and its colorful anthropomorphic characters is expected to rise. Since the Nintendo Switch has a much larger audience than the Wii U ever did, Splatoon 3 is likely to bring a lot of new fans into its competitive multiplayer. Anyone who wants to try the game before its September 9th release date can now sign up for the August 27th demo.
