Netflix's figure skating drama series Spinning Out stars Kaya Scodelario as Kat Baker, a skater recovering from a devastating fall, who decides to rekindle her Olympic dreams by retraining as a pair skater. The show also stars two-time Olympian figure skater Johnny Weir in a supporting role, and the small town setting of Hawkley, Idaho features a rich cast of characters as Kat's family, friends, and rivals.
Created by Samantha Stratton, Spinning Out season 1 was released on New Year's Day, 2020. The ten-episode season covers Kat's struggles to deal with both her mother's bipolar disorder and her own, as well as friction with her new skating partner and the growing distance between herself and her sister, Serena, who is also a competitive figure skater.

- Kaya Scodelario as Kat Baker - A former singles skater with bipolar disorder, who fell and cracked her skull open on the ice a year previously. Traumatized by the experience, Kat has resigned herself to a career as a coach until the opportunity presents itself to become part of a pair skating team. Scodelario is known for her roles in teen drama Skins, the Maze Runner movies, and last year's alligator horror Crawl.
- January Jones as Carol Baker - Kat's mother, who also has bipolar disorder and has struggled to stay on her medication. A former figure skater herself, Carol was forced to give up her career after having a baby, and lives vicariously through her daughters as she pushes them towards victory. Jones is known for playing Betty Draper in Mad Men and Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class.
- Willow Shields as Serena Baker - Kat's younger sister, whose career as a singles skater has become the main focus of Carol's attention in the aftermath of Kat's fall. Shields is known for playing Primrose Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies.
- Evan Roderick as Justin Davis - The wealthy and arrogant heir to a hotel and real estate fortune, Justin becomes Kat's partner in pair skating - despite their differences. Roderick is known for playing Officer Rick Anastas in Arrow.
- Svetlana Efremova as Dasha Fedorova - A former Olympian figure skater who has been coaching Justin since he was a child, and takes in an interest in Kat as well. Efremova has appeared in TV shows including House of Cards, The Americans, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
- Amanda Zhou as Jenn Yu - Kat's best friend since childhood and Serena's competitor in singles skating, Jenn is suffering from an injured hip that she cannot afford to rest. Zhou appeared in the horror movies Rabid and IT Chapter Two.
- Mitchell Edwards as Marcus Holmes - The manager at the hotel bar where Kat works, Marcus gets an offer to join a ski team that's headed for the Olympics. Edwards also appeared in TV shows The Fix and All American.
- Will Kemp as Mitch Saunders - Serena's coach, who develops a close relationship with the Baker family - and whom Kat suspects might be getting a little too close to her sister. Kemp is known for playing Henry Stuart in historical drama series Reign.
- Sarah Wright as Mandy Davis - Justin's stepmother, who runs her own real estate company and is sympathetic towards Kat. Wright has also appeared in Parks and Recreation, and alongside Tom Cruise in American Made.
