Warning! Spoilers for Edge of Spider-Verse #4 (of 5) by Marvel Comics

A fan-made Spider-Verse hero is making their return as the Amazing Sun-Spider will reappear in her own story in an all-new adventure from Marvel Comics. In Marvel's solicits for September, more details were provided about the upcoming Edge of Spider-Verse miniseries. Sun-Spider, the winner of the 2020 Spidersona contest, will take the spotlight in their own story in the miniseries' fourth issue.

In 2020's Spider-Verse #1, Marvel Comics got fans to design new spider-heroes, picking a handful of winners to appear in cameos throughout the multi-dimensional miniseries. Among the winners included Spider-Requiem, a puppeteer who uses her skills in battle, the Spinster, a French-revolution-inspired take on Madame Web, and V, a cuber-punk robo Spidersona from the year 2077. However, one of the best Spidersonas was created by Dayna Broder, who made Sun-Spider, a disabled hero who uses crutches when in costume, and an ambulatory wheelchair when not suited up. Now, Sun-Spider will star in her own story.

In new solicits for Spider-Verse #4 by Dan Slott, David Hein, Irene Sankoff, Tee Franklin, Nathan Stockman, Will Robson, and more soon-to-be-announced creators from Marvel Comics, the surprise return of Sun-Spider was revealed. The solicit shares that the 2020 Spidersona contest winner will get her own story in the Spider-Verse comic, which will also feature Spider-Ham and the Spider-Mobile. Seeing a fan-made character get her own story is excellent, as Sun-Spider made quite a first impression with her design and backstory.

Sun-Spider

Sun-Spider won't be the only fresh face appearing in the upcoming Spider-Verse #4 from Marvel Comics, as a new character named Spinstress, described as a "brand new Spider-Princess who sings, talks to a spider, and kicks villainous butt," will appear in a story from the writers David Hein and Irene Sankoff, writers of the Broadway show Come From Away. Additionally, Spider-Verse #5 will feature the debut of another new Spider-Verse, with a Kris Anka-designed Web-Weaver debuting in the issue.

One of the joys of the Spider-Verse is seeing all of the new faces that pop up throughout the series, as there are constantly new takes on spider-themed heroes showing up across the Multiverse. Sun-Spider's unexpected return is a welcome one, as seeing the fan-made Spidersona contest winner star in her own story should be a lot of fun. It's great to see Marvel expand on the character, and hopefully, her reappearance leads to Sun-Spider becoming a recurring character in upcoming Spider-Verse comics and stories. Spider-Verse #4 by Marvel Comics is in stores in September.
