WARNING! This post contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home!

Christopher Miller, half of the writer-producer team behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, marks the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home with the perfect tweet. Sony’s animated comic book movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse followed Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and a handful of Spider-People dealing with multiversal problems. The surprise hit redefined Spider cinema thanks to its heart and overall concept. Sony and Marvel Studios’ latest live-action film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, embraces its own Spider-Verse, bringing back characters from past Spider-Man franchises.

As the final installment in the Homecoming trilogy, No Way Home picks up where Far From Home left off: Peter Parker (Tom Holland) dealing with the aftermath of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealing Spider-Man’s identity and implicating him as a murderer. Due to the impact on the lives of his friends and family, Peter goes to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help making an undetermined amount of people forget he’s Spider-Man. When the resulting spell inevitably goes awry, those who know Peter Parker is Spider-Man are brought into the MCU, including Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Electro (Jamie Foxx), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Lizard (Rhys Ifans), and, of course, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men. The latter heroes not only help “Peter 1” with his multiversal problem but help him become a better Spider-Man. That being said, there’s almost no denying Into the Spider-Verse’s influence on No Way Home.

As the internet reacts to No Way Home, Miller, who produced Into the Spider-Verse with writer/director Phil Lord, shared the perfect tweet in response to the live-action Spider-Verse becoming a reality. According to Miller, he and Lord pitched to Sony to involve Holland, Maguire, and Garfield in their film, but were told it was “too soon.” Check it out below:

While Marvel Studios reportedly always planned on introducing the multiverse, Into the Spider-Verse’s popularity certainly made it easier to justify bringing back Maguire and Garfield; maybe they told Miller and Lord “too soon” because it was always part of the plan. Regardless, Into the Spider-Verse’s post-credits scene set up a sequel via Miguel O’ Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Issac). Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)which will release in October 2022 before Part Two in 2023, recently dropped its first teaser trailer. This time around, Miles will be traveling to alternate realities instead of them coming to him. He’ll be joined by Spider-Gwen, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and, presumably, Peter B. Parker, Spider-Man 2099, and possibly many more.

It’s worth noting that No Way Home stars Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, and Holland have expressed interest in voicing their characters in Into the Spider-Verse’s sequel. At this point, there’s no reason Across the Spider-Verse can’t incorporate elements and/or characters from Sony’s live-action films. Following No Way Home, fans are no doubt craving more of Holland, Maguire, and Garfield Aka the “Spider-Bros.” As Miller points out, too soon has become soon enough.
