Spider-Man web-shooters have now become hand sanitizers designed to help battle the coronavirus. In mid-March, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic, and since then, the world has experienced a great shift. Non-essential businesses closed, a worldwide lockdown commenced with social distancing and washing hands seen as the best case of helping combat the virus. The effect of the many lockdowns has, of course, led to the entertainment industry taking a big hit. Companies like Disney raising $11 billion in new debt to deal with the financial repercussions of the outbreak, and countless Hollywood releases being delayed due to theater and production shutdowns.

One of the noticeable theatrical delays during this chaotic time has been Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, as the famous web-slingers film was pushed back four months from July 2021 to November 2021. Although steps are being taken to return to a normal way of life in various parts of the world, there is still great concern about catching the virus, and now Spider-Man’s web-shooters have seemingly become a source of inspiration to help clean people’s hands during these uncertain times.

Inventions, Gadgets & Gizmos (via PumPiX's Kickstarter campaign) uploaded a video onto their YouTube account that details a new product called PumPiX, which is described as “a slick wristband” that enables people to push a sliding button and spray hand sanitizer into their palms or at other surfaces with ease. The video also details that it allows up to one-hundred pumps, and once the sanitizer runs out, it can be refilled.

While being quite a handy product, especially in the current climate, it undeniably draws comparisons to Spider-Man’s web-shooters. The look and motion of the sanitizer spraying towards your palm are just like what we see from Marvel’s famous superhero. The product is currently in the stage of trying to raise enough funding to develop PumPiX’s. Considering the outbreak of COVID-19 is ongoing, people may likely be more inclined to support such a product, and for diehard Spider-Man fans, the added feeling of it resembling web-shooters may also encourage them to support the product.

Recently, countries around the world have taken steps to begin reopening, which could see productions like The Batman and even Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier resume filming. Also, states such as Georgia and Texas have started reopening theaters. However, as the PumPiX video mentions, there is still “no treatment available” for coronavirus, and some are concerned countries may be moving too fast. Still, PumPiX’s Spider-Man style hand sanitizers are a neat product for people to trying to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
