While promoting the newest trailer for Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland recently disclosed who his favorite MCU villain confrontation has been during his tenure as the iconic web-slinger. Holland's Spider-Man first debuted in the MCU in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Since then, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have collaboratively released two solo films for Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home), with the third on the way next month. Holland's first two films brought many of the most iconic members of Spider-Man's rogues gallery to life, such as Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), with many more soon to come.

A host of Spider-Man's most iconic villains are poised to soon make their MCU debut, as revealed by the latest trailer for No Way Home. Among those confirmed are Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), the Sandman, and the Lizard. What sets these five villains apart from the MCU's earlier takes on Spider-Man's rogues is that they are allegedly the same versions of the characters that appear in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective Spider-Man films. With the MCU's multiverse blown open, thanks to the events of Loki, it appears that multiversal shenanigans will be afoot in No Way Home.

During the recent No Way Home fan event in Los Angeles, Holland revealed that his favorite villain to face off against as Spider-Man was Alfred Molina's Doc Ock. He says that Molina's enthusiasm toward the "technological advancements that filmmaking has made" was infectious for Holland as an actor. He goes on to say that seeing Molina let loose without the restrictions of physical mechanical limbs "was really kind of rewarding." Check out Holland's full comments below:

The problem is, is they’re all my friends.

I think my favorite has to be Alfred Molina. Working with him on this film was so fun, because he was so blown away with the technological advancements that filmmaking has made. Back in the day...the arms that he used to have were puppeteered by four different people and nowadays, obviously, we don’t do that anymore because it’s very time consuming, so it’s all done with CG. And watching him be very free as Doc Ock was really kind of rewarding because, back in the day, if he wanted to go over here, he’d have to tell four different people, ‘Guys, I‘m gonna step over here, and then you follow me, and then you get this one to do that.’ So, to see him kind of have the freedom to bring Doc Ock back to life in a new way was amazing, but then also, Fred is one of the greatest people I’ve ever worked with.

Before singling out Molina, Holland makes it clear that "they’re all my friends," in reference to his now numerous villainous co-stars. Despite his age, the young actor has already had the privilege of working with some of the finest actors in the industry, including Hollywood legends like Michael Keaton. However, Molina's charms clearly were too irresistible to ignore; he is, after all, considered to be one of the absolute standouts of Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy. Fans have every reason to be hyped for Spider-Man's long-awaited clash against Doc Ock next month.

Despite the countless recent legal issues with Spider-Man's cinematic rights – all of which have threatened Holland's continued involvement in the MCU to various degrees – it seems that Spider-Man will continue to play a crucial role as the franchise trudges onward. Last week, Disney+ even announced an animated series following Peter Parker set within the mainline film continuity. Hopefully, Spider-Man: No Way Home will mark the first stages of a Spider-Man renaissance in the MCU.
