Spider-Man: How Tom Holland's Miles Morales Idea Could Work

With Spider-Man: No Way Home on the way, Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man films have already laid the groundwork for Miles Morales to make his debut. No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17th, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man fighting villains from throughout the Multiverse after a failed spell by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to wipe Peter's identity from the world's collective memory. The villains set to appear in No Way Home include Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), along with several others like Electro (Jamie Foxx), all coming over from past Spider-Man films from before the MCU. However, No Way Home could also be Holland's Spidey swan song, while another well-known web-head has been nominated to succeed him by Holland himself.

Holland indicated in a GQ interview that "It might be time for me to move on," and he also suggested that "Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film." While it might seem like the MCU would need to establish a completely new origin tale and entry point for Miles, that's actually not the case. In truth, Holland's own Spider-Man appearances have already done much of the heavy lifting for Miles to be introduced into the MCU with ease.

2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming included an appearance by Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover. While Davis is one of numerous characters to take up the identity of Prowler, he's also known as the uncle of Miles Morales. A deleted scene from Homecoming even showed Davis name-dropping Miles in a phone-call, and while this wouldn't be considered official MCU canon, there's also another clear opening for Miles.

Miles Morales in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse

After Thanos performed the snap and wiped out half of the universe in Avengers: Infinity War, Peter Parker was among the trillions who disintegrated into dust. Though Peter and everyone else who perished were brought back in Avengers: Endgame when Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) performed another snap with the Infinity Stones, he and everyone else had been dead for five years by that point. That time jump is the perfect window to establish Miles' own Spider-Man origin, with Miles getting his own spider-bite and discovering his spider-powers while Peter was gone.

While Miles wasn't shown to be in operation as Spider-Man once Peter was back in Far From Home, he might've experienced his spider-bite closer to Peter's return, with less time to formulate his own Spider-Man identity. The public might also have not have had time to fully become aware of Miles' Spider-Man before No Way Home.

Tom Holland's had a very busy career since he began as Spider-Man, portraying the webslinger in six movies in five years, only having a gap of three days from finishing his work on Uncharted and starting on No Way Home. It's understandable that he might be ready to take a break, and his suggestion of Miles Morales as his successor not only makes sense from a story standpoint, but would be easy to pull off with how much the MCU has already done to open the door for Miles' entrance. There are many great Spider-people in the Spider-Verse, and Miles Morales is one of them who could even be teased or make a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home - and if the speculation about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective Spider-Men holds true, he'd be in good company.
