Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sadly ended up cutting out planned cameos from various big Hollywood names, and here's a full rundown. When Sony announced they were going to make an animated Spider-Man film for theaters, lots of skepticism surrounded the project. After all, Spider-Man has headlined seven films since 2002, and appeared in smaller roles in several more MCU entries. Sony also used Venom to start up its own Spider-Man villain universe, so it kind of seemed like the property was stretching a bit thin.

Of course, when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released, there was no negativity to be heard. Spider-Verse stands as one of the most acclaimed superhero films in history, animated or live-action, and gave Spidey fans just about everything they could possibly want out of a movie rated PG. The visuals were breathtaking, the performances by the various Spider-people terrific, and the story surprisingly moving for what many first assumed would be a kids movie. To say that Into the Spider-Verse 2 is hotly anticipated would be an understatement.

Into the Spider-Verse also played host to a treasure trove of character cameos, references only comic book readers would get, and Easter eggs tracing back to so many chapters of Spider-Man's cinematic and animated history. Sadly, not every planned cameo made the final cut, and here's who got left out.

Spider-Man: Every Cut Into The Spider-Verse Cameo

Spider-Verse Holland Maguire Garfield SR

In the most heartbreaking cameo scene cut from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, producer Chris Miller has revealed that the film's creative team pitched Sony on an end tag that would've likely driven Spider-fans into hysterics. That tag would've seen animated versions of all three live-action Spider-Men appear together onscreen, with Tom Holland's MCU Spidey, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy, and Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man version all interacting for the first time, along with Spider-Ham.

Unfortunately, Sony said the grand moment was "too soon," crushing many fan fantasies in the process. Interestingly, Holland has also talked a bit more about his planned cameo, which he says would've seen him hanging out in a train station and saying hi to Miles Morales. It's a bit unclear if this was part of the pitched crossover, or another solo idea they had for Holland.

Another sadly lost cameo would've seen superstar director James Cameron and A-list actor Tom Cruise appear as versions of themselves early on, as in this version, Miles would learn about being Spider-Man not from a comic book but from an in-universe movie that Spidey had been a creative consultant on. Cameron would've been the film's director, while Cruise played Spider-Man, and at one point both would be heard on the DVD commentary track, along with Spidey himself. A version of this scene, minus Cruise and Cameron, appears in storyboard form on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse alternate home video cut.
