A new Spider-Man: No Way Home-inspired fan film reunites Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen. Following the lackluster reception of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and abandoned plans for Spider-Man 4, Sony rebooted the franchise with Garfield as its titular character. Starring alongside Garfield was Stone’s Gwen Stacy, his love interest in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man films. Mirroring one of the most iconic and heartbreaking moments from the comics, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 saw Garfield's Peter try to save Gwen after being thrown down a clocktower by the Green Goblin. Peter/Spider-Man caught Gwen with his web, but not soon enough to prevent her tragic death.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was reportedly set to deal with the Sinister Six and resurrect characters like Gwen. Unfortunately, the third installment in Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man franchise never came to fruition, due to the poor reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which ultimately led to Sony and Marvel Studios’ decision to instead bring Spider-Man into the MCU and cast Tom Holland. However, last year’s mega-hit Spider-Man: No Way Home offered up closure and redemption for both Maguire and Garfield’s web-slingers. For example, Garfield's Spider-Man made up for failing to save Gwen by catching MJ (Zendaya) as she fell from the Statue of Liberty. This moment in No Way Home also had many fans wondering what The Amazing Spider-Man 3 might have looked like.

Now, Movila on YouTube shares an alternate post-credits scene for No Way Home, in which Garfield’s Spider-Man meets Stone’s Spider-Gwen. Using artificial intelligence, the fan film sees “Peter 3” return to what he thinks is his universe - only to find Stone’s character holds a dying Peter. Check it out below:

The character of Spider-Gwen was first introduced in Marvel's 2014 Edge of Spider-Verse miniseries, which explores an alternate universe where Gwen Stacy is bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. The 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced a similar version of the character, as voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, who lost her best friend Peter Parker. Not only did Into the Spider-Verse likely influence Sony/Marvel Studios’ live-action Spider-Verse in No Way Home, but it has also grown Spider-Gwen’s popularity, and the fandom’s desire to see Stone play the character in the MCU.

Spider-Man: No Way Home more than redeemed Garfield’s web-slinger, proving him to be a worthy Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Now, audiences (and even Holland) have made it clear with online petitions that they want to see more of Garfield in either The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or elsewhere in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. However, a reunion between Garfield and Stone, whose on-screen chemistry proved some of the franchise’s best, in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is arguably even more exciting - especially if Stone reprises her TASM role after being bitten by a radioactive spider, as in the fan film above.
