Warning! Spoilers ahead for Amazing Spider-Man #83

In the latest issue of Marvel ComicsAmazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker returns to hero work way too early, resulting in a brutal yet unintentional cheap shot from Captain America himself. Thanks to Spider-Man's overwhelming sense of responsibility, Peter Parker has been having an extremely hard time just lying in his hospital bed, even though he isn't fully recovered from his radiation poisoning (written and drawn by Patrick Gleason, colors by Morry Hollowell and Nathan Fairbairn, letters by VC's Chris Eliopoulos and Joe Caramagna). Likewise, some of his classic abilities as a Webslinger aren't working properly, resulting in Peter getting absolutely nailed by Steve Rogers.

In previous issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker became violently sick after being exposed to too much radiation in a battle with the U-Foes. As a result, the original Spider-Man has been in the hospital while his clone Ben Reilly has taken over as Spider-Man. While Ben is working for the Beyond Corporation whose motives are suspect, he did get Peter's official blessing to be New York's premier Wallcrawler. However, that doesn't mean Peter is content with just staying in his hospital bed.

Having donned replica versions of his spider-suit and webshooters bought in online auctions while drugged up on painkillers, the original Spider-Man decides to spend some time on the hospital roof in Amazing Spider-Man #83. However, one thing leads to another and he can't help but respond to a call for help. Despite still being incredibly weak and sick, Spider-Man attempts to stop a pair of carjackers which naturally doesn't go well. While Captain America arrives on the scene in the nick of time, Spider-Man's spider-sense isn't working properly. As such, Peter doesn't detect the bullet fired right at his head nor Captain America's shield he threw to stop it, resulting in Spider-Man being getting knocked out cold by the vibranium symbol of freedom.

While Captain America wasn't wrong in assuming Spider-Man would dodge the shield using his spider-sense (had it been working), it's still a brutal hit that brutally blindsides the Webslinger. That being said, it's hopefully a good lesson for Peter that he needs to just stay in the hospital until he fully recovers, as challenging as that may be. While it's hilarious that Captain America had no intention of absolutely laying Spider-Man out with his shield, the major concussion it likely caused isn't something the original Spider-Man needed to deal with on top of his body already trying to bounce back from the excess radiation in his system.

In any case, Spider-Man's lack of spider-sense is a major problem that will hopefully sort itself out (provided Peter allows himself time to heal). At the moment, his spider-sense has become a weakness where it's been reversed, painfully warning him of the danger within instead of external threats like normal. While it was purely accidental, Captain America and his shield provided the perfect example for why Peter's spider-sense problem is a pretty big obstacle for his return as Spider-Man, seeing as how it makes him vulnerable to similar cheap shots (intentional or otherwise).
