Star Wars’ Anakin Skywalker reacts to Spider-Man’s fight with the Sandman in a hilarious new TikTok. Both Anakin and Peter Parker/Spider-Man have made notable on-screen appearances over the past year. Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of 2021's most talked about movies thanks to appearances by all three Spider-Man actors: Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. Meanwhile, Anakin/Darth Vader made his return with Hayden Christensen’s rendition of the villain in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Over the years and in various different portrayals, Spider-Man has fought a number of formidable villains. One of the most iconic is the gargantuan Sandman. The Sandman comes from the original comics, making his debut in 1963. Since then, the Sandman has appeared in two Spider-Man films: Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 in 2007 and Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the films, the Sandman is played by actor Thomas Haden Church.

With Anakin quoting a seemingly “intense” villain with Count Dooku, one might expect his imagined reaction to Spider-Man to be unimpressed given the name Sandman sounds inherently less threatening. However, Anakin famously hates sand, calling it "coarse and rough and irritating" in a scene from the prequels. For this reason, it makes sense he's horrified by the idea of a villain made entirely of sand. Though a similar conversation between Anakin and Spider-Man will likely never happen in film form, the TikTok is a cleverly amusing take on a Star Wars and Spider-Man mashup.
The future of the Sandman in the Spider-Man universe is unknown. Many were surprised to see him return alongside other past Spider-Man villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Unlike Venom and the New Goblin, the Sandman ended his feud with Spider-Man peacefully at the end of Spider-Man 3, and he did not die, making his return alongside infamous dead villains like the Green Goblin unlikely. Nonetheless, he fought against Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Like the other villains in No Way Home, it is unclear what the Sandman’s fate is when he returns to his universe. If there are to be more Spider-Man films, it stands to reason the Sandman could make another appearance, likely to Anakin's chagrin.
