After its initial release two years ago, Marvel’s Spider-Man has reached, and surpassed, a huge milestone by topping 20 million unit sales across the globe. Originally released on the PlayStation 4 as a platform exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man was remastered for the PlayStation 5 launch this year.

The remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man comes as part of the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition of the game. Its re-release was initially met with a few raised eyebrows, after some questionable changes from the developers which saw the face model for Peter Parker radically changed from the original title's release in 2018. Despite this, sales of the remaster don't appear to have been affected by the new look.

But even with the new generation of gaming now upon us, that has not stopped the sales of PlayStation 4 games from continuing to pass monumental sales milestones. Twitter user Timmur222 recently brought the revelation that the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man has surpassed a huge 20 million unit sales globally. This information was gleaned from the LinkedIn profile of David Bull, a senior manager and the Global Marketing Leader at PlayStation. While listing his notable achievements on the professional networking site, David draws attention to his role in “breaking sales records with a recognized marketing campaign for Marvel’s Spider-Man” and that sales have reached “over 20 million units globally”. Nothing has actually officially been announced by either Sony or Insomniac Games to back up or dispute this claim, however.

According to his LinkedIn profile, David Bull is also leading teams on a variety of other PlayStation 5 releases, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Most elusively though, he has specifically mentioned that he is also leading teams on “future unannounced PS5 games”. Gaming fans will be sure to want to know more about these unnamed titles, although it is unlikely that anything will be revealed for a while, as Sony is currently busy promoting its console launches and 2021 game releases.

David Bull definitely has an impressive resumé backed up by some solid sales. Marvel’s Spider-Man is often regarded as one of the best superhero games of its generation, so these newly found figures are not that surprising – even though they are still incredibly impressive. The popularity of Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 was, in no small part, what is to thank for its remaster on the PlayStation 5. Compared to other remasters on the new gaming platform, such as Demon’s Souls, Marvel’s Spider-Man is still at a relatively young age. It is unlikely Sony would have invested so much time into a remaster of such a new game if its sales for the pre-gen console were not strong already.
