The Insomniac-developed Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 just got a Game of the Year Edition, and it's available right now. Spider-Man PS4 was well-received by fans, quickly becoming PlayStation's fastest-selling game ever, as far as first-party titles go.

In fact, Spider-Man PS4 sold 9 million copies in four months, more than three million of which it sold in the first three days. Screen Rant's Spider-Man PS4 review gave the game a 3.5 out of 5 stars, and the game was one of six game of the year nominees for The Game Awards 2018. Insomniac was praised for Spider-Man PS4's touching, character-driven story and, naturally, its fun traversal mechanics. The game suffered from a somewhat lackluster open world and repetitive combat, but it had enough charm to warrant several DLC packs that added new costumes and more story scenarios to the experience.

The Spider-Man PS4 Game of the Year Edition collects all that DLC and the base game into one complete package. Insomniac Games announced the new edition in a PlayStation Blog post. The Game of the Year edition is meant to commemorate the game's one-year anniversary on September 7, less than a week from today. The Game of the Year Edition includes the full game and a voucher for the game's The City That Never Sleep DLC, meaning it'll have to be downloaded separately. The DLC is a three-part narrative addition to Spider-Man PS4 featuring classic Spider-Man characters such as Black Cat and Silver Sable.

It was recently announced during Gamescom 2019 that Sony bought Spider-Man PS4 developer Insomniac. The developer had previously produced both the Resistance and Ratchet & Clank franchises as PlayStation exclusives, so it's no surprise that Sony finally bought the company after finding yet another hit Insomniac-exclusive game in Spider-Man PS4. Insomniac also created the Xbox-exclusive game Sunset Overdrive around the time of the Xbox One's launch, so the future of that franchise is unknown. In a message to fans after the buyout, Insomniac CEO Ted Price said joining Sony felt like a homecoming and included an image that featured Sunset Overdrive, so perhaps the franchise could live on somehow. Either way, Sony will likely fund a Spider-Man PS4 sequel since the game was such a critical and commercial success.

The Spider-Man PS4 Game of the Year Edition could be the perfect way to experience Insomniac's interactive cinematic experience. If you're a Spider-Man fan, you'll likely want to pick the game up, especially since it brings the price of the base game and DLC down to just $39.99.
