Warning! Spoilers for Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #1!

Outside of displaying some weird loner tendencies as of late, Spider-Man has been acting like a huge flake to the people around him, and now he’s proven once again why the rest of the heroes in the Marvel community are totally right for not trusting him! This isn’t the first time Spidey has acted like this towards his colleagues, it’s just that now it’s more of a blatant thing compared to before.

Drawn attention to right away during the first story of the premiere issue of Deadpool: Black, White & Blood, “Red All Over,” by Tom Taylor and Phil Noto, sees Deadpool reaching out to his closest super-friends in an attempt to get some help in a situation he can’t handle alone. Calling Spider-Man, Wolverine, and eventually, the mutant known as Honey Badger, Deadpool is in dire need of some assistance, but it’s abundantly apparent Spidey isn’t going to be the one to give it.

Seeing Wade’s call as he sits relaxing at home with Mary Jane, Spider-Man takes one glance at the caller ID and immediately makes it clear that he isn’t interested in picking up, with MJ even saying, “Let it go to voice mail. Nothing good can come from answering that,” to solidify his decision. Hilariously revealed on the following page that Deadpool has been disemboweled during a brutal fight against zombie lab animals (yes, really), readers are given a clear reason for him needing Spidey’s help, even though the chances of him getting it were slim to none before this issue even started.

But this should come as no surprise to his superhero pals since Spider-Man has been pulling stunts like this for quite some time now. Already flaking out on attending any superhero get-together’s he’s been invited to, Spider-Man has been ignoring Wolverine’s emails as of late and has even been sending Captain America’s directly to the spam folder, leading nearly every hero in Marvel Comics to simply stop trusting and relying on the guy for pretty much anything at this point.

Having been dodging his other superhero friends, work friends, regular friends, family members, and anyone and everyone in between as well, Spider-Man has blamed his lack of trustworthiness in lending a helping hand on his overstuffed superhero schedule and a bunch of pressing personal issues he’s been dealing with lately, effectively drawing his attention away from relationships he’d normally keep up with. But as seen in this issue, straight up not answering Deadpool’s call is just another normal roadblock in a long string of issues people have with trusting Spider-Man at all.

So although Spidey may not always act like a bad friend, a terrible communicator, and an untrustworthy hero on purpose, it can’t be denied the way he’s been going about things recently is leaving a lot of people hurt and confused. Marvel’s heroes don’t trust Spider-Man at the moment, so now it’s on him to gain back their respect back before it’s too late.
