When asked about his potential return as Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Willem Dafoe refuses to comment. There's still nothing but silence from Marvel Studios and Sony when it comes to the upcoming Jon Watts and Tom Holland blockbuster. As its release date slowly inches near, however, people are getting more agitated in learning a thing or two about its story.

Fortunately, while the studios have yet to drop anything official, tie-in merchandise has offered clues as to what to expect from the movie. Toys and various figures have backed up the idea that Spider-Man: No Way Home will have a multiversal narrative, thanks to the involvement of Doctor Strange. This is also further strengthened by recent set images of the sorcerer welcoming Peter Parker into the Sanctum Sanctorum. Previous iterations of the Marvel hero now have a clear path in appearing. But aside from seeing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their superhero roles at any capacity, there's also anticipation to see their villains coming into the MCU, with Holland also having to deal with them.

There are several actors from the Sam Raimi trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man films who are rumored to reprise their bad guy roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, including Dafoe. In fact, amidst everyone, his Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is speculated to be the story's main antagonist. The Wrap recently caught up with the actor and asked if there's any truth to the matter, but he plainly said "no comment." Instead, he maintains that it's best for people to talk about a movie when it has already come out. Read his full statement below:

“I got lots of stuff happening now. And, you know, I always feel like when a film comes out, that’s when it’s time to talk about it.”

Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn sharpening a knife in Spider-Man

Before Dafoe's comment, many of the speculated stars to be involved in Spider-Man: No Way Home have either straight-up denied it or came forward with a confirmation. Garfield infamously has a long-winded answer when asked about the matter, squashing the murmurs that he'll be back. Interestingly, however, he eventually walked about on his stance, and gave a more non-committal answer by saying "never say never." Then, of course, there's Alfred Molina, who spilled almost all the details regarding his return as Doc Ock in the threequel. Like Dafoe, Molina was from the Raimi trilogy, and both of their characters died in their respective films, but it seems like Marvel Studios is looking to bring them back, nonetheless.

Overall, Dafoe's short and straight-to-the-point answer is the best way to approach the matter. The press and fans will understandably ask these questions until there's a definitive answer from Marvel Studios or Sony. But, it's clear that the studios are just not ready to kickstart marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home even if it's just about four months away from hitting theaters. So, while Dafoe's comment doesn't really give anything away, it offers fans a new tidbit to talk about. After all, while it's not a confirmation, it's also not a denial.
