A new TV spot for Spider-Man: No Way Home features more footage of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker using the Iron Spider suit to fight Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. The third installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy has given fans a lot to anticipate but the return of Alfred Molina as Dr. Otto Octavius might be one of the most exciting elements of all. Last seen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, the character was a tragic figure driven mad by the AI in his four robotic appendages before regaining control and finding redemption by drowning himself and his fusion reactor when it threatened to destroy New York City.

Now, the classic Spidey villain returns to menace a new incarnation of the wall-crawler along with several other familiar foes. The second trailer for the film confirms the return of Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s movies, seemingly forming a team reminiscent of the Sinister Six. Doc Ock has been placed front and center of the marketing campaign after Molina’s involvement as Doc Ock was reported last year, with a set-piece of Ock and Spidey battling on a bridge seemingly being a major turning point in the plot.

New footage of this fight has been revealed in a TV spot (via Spider-Man: No Way Home Updates), which gives an idea of how Doctor Octopus measures up to a new Spider-Man. The spot begins with the reveal from the first trailer as Ock identifies the MCU Spidey by saying “Hello, Peter” to which Spider-Man replies “Do I know you?” They then engage in battle, with Ock’s arms easily constricting the Iron Spider suit as he taunts “You think your fancy new suit’s gonna save you?” The Iron Spider is still able to put up a fight with its own set of mechanical arms as it tears through a piece of debris putting Parker back in the fight. Octavius then responds to this by speaking to his own arms and saying “Looks like we got competition.

The spot confirms that Octavius assumes Holland’s Spider-Man is Maguire’s incarnation, identifying him as “Peter” and making reference to a history between the two by pointing out a “new suit.” This aligns with what Molina has said in interviews - that he is playing the same Doc Ock from Raimi’s trilogy and is taken from after his apparent death as Octavius only learned Peter’s true identity moments before he seemingly perished. This is backed up by Otto speaking to his arms, as he did in Spider-Man 2, which was how the appendages were able to influence his mind. This may provide an insight as to why the apparently redeemed Doc Ock is attacking Spider-Man again, as the arms could have regained control after an apparent upgrade.

The spot also proves that, after nearly 20 years, Molina’s Ock is still one of the deadliest of the wall-crawler’s adversaries. The MCU Spider-Man has faced tough odds, cutting his teeth against Michael Keaton’s Vulture and directly taking on the Mad Titan, Thanos. There was a concern that Doc Ock may somewhat pale in comparison but this spot shows his mechanical arms are as powerful as ever and perfectly adept at taking on Parker’s hand-me-down Iron Man suit. Indeed, this scrap is well-matched, with each combatant having four extra appendages at their disposal, so it’s clear that Otto is holding his own in the MCU. However, this brief look only offers a taste of what is to come and should adequately whet the appetite of fans as Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to be Spidey’s biggest adventure yet.
