Warning: This post includes SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home

The Academy has hinted at Spider-Man: No Way Home's biggest spoiler and enraged fans. Spider-Man: No Way Home hit cinemas earlier this week to massive box office and critical success. The third installment in the Homecoming trilogy, No Way Home has already broken records for having the highest-grossing first day as a pandemic film and brought in the highest Thursday box office since Avengers: Endgame.

No Way Home is full of exciting moments, but a highlight for many fans is the thrilling Spidey team up with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland all playing alternate versions of Spider-Man. Although rumors had been running rampant for months about the possibility of the previous Spider-Men Maguire and Garfield joining Holland for his third solo outing, both Marvel Studios and Sony remained tight-lipped. With Andrew Garfield valiantly denying any and all rumors about his involvement in the film, fans were unsure whether the rumors were true.

In what has been considered a major spoiler by many fans, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has tweeted about the "Three generations of Peter Parker", as well as a poll asking fans to decide who their favorite had been. The tweet, which has been liked over 4,000 times at the time of writing, has been filled with fans pointing out how this may have ruined the team-up reveal for others. Despite many complaints, The Academy has opted to leave the tweet up.

Before the film's release, those behind No Way Home began a campaign online asking fans not to spoil the movie for others, even going as far as to add "NO SPOILERS' to their Twitter display name. Videos of the cast, including Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, requesting people keep spoilers to themselves has been shared widely online since the film's release. Given the attempts all those behind the movie have made to keep these reveals a secret, it has come as a surprise to fans to see such a well-known organization in the film industry even allude to Maguire and Garfield's being among No Way Home's cast.

Although the tweet didn't specifically spoil moments in Spider-Man: No Way Home or show any new footage, given how widespread rumors of an appearance from the previous Spider-Men have been, it's safe to assume a lot of people will have taken a tweet from The Academy just after the film's release as confirmation. Although the involvement of the previous franchise's villains was made known from trailers, the film contains a lot of surprise appearances and moments, even outside of Maguire and Garfield, that many fans will want to preserve until they've seen the film themselves. With the film heading towards its first weekend, hopefully, fans will manage to navigate social media without further spoilers or hints.
