Even though he is heavily featured in the film, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he hasn't read the full script for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film, which is the fourth movie in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the third solo outing for Tom Holland's Spider-Man, who was first introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil WarNo Way Home, which also features returning Spider-Man players Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, JB Smoove, Martin Starr, Tony Revolori, and Angourie Rice, will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home are currently available for purchase.

No Way Home is certainly vying for the title of the most ambitious crossover that Marvel has ever pulled off. In addition to including Marvel characters like Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong's Wong, and Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan, the film will feature villains from multiple Spider-Man universes including Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Sandman from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and Lizard and Electro from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man films. There are also rampant rumors that previous Peter Parkers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their roles, though the actors involved have stubbornly held their tongues on confirming this.

Speaking with USA Today about his new film The Power of the Dog, Cumberbatch let it slip that he hadn't read the entire script of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Knowing Marvel's usual tricks for preventing spoilers from leaking, they likely didn't provide him with the true full script regardless. However, he made his own choice not to read the entire thing, so he could enjoy the film when he gets to see it in its completed form. As he says, "I just want the ride." Read the full quote below:

You know it's a dead end [to ask for spoilers], but I can tell you this: It's a riotous film. I don't want to give anything away – and I haven't actually read the whole script! I did that on purpose because I just want the ride.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider Man No Way Home

From the looks of the trailers, Doctor Strange will be featured in quite a bit of the film. This is necessary because one of his spells going awry is the reason the multiverses collide in the first place. However, there's a chance he may not show up outside of the three major scenes he appears in, meaning that Cumberbatch would be in the dark about what happens in every other scene in the two-and-a-half-hour film.

Whether or not the previous Peter Parkers make it into Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film will certainly be pulling off a trick that no film has ever done before. It makes perfect sense that Cumberbatch would want to preserve as many of the surprises as possible for himself. There is also the practical concern that the less he knows about the film, the less he has to be concerned about accidentally dropping spoilers when being interviewed about it.
