Spider-Man: No Way Home's first set photos hint at how the film would end. There's massive anticipation for the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony collaboration project. Not only will it wrap up Tom Holland's first Spider-Man trilogy, but it will also tie all three Spider-Man franchises together. Amidst all this, many are wondering how Peter Parker's upcoming adventure will end, especially since he's confirmed to continue his story in the franchise beyond it.

Both previous Spider-Man movies featured some sort of last-minute reveal. After successfully taking down Vulture (Michael Keaton) and preventing him from stealing Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) high-tech gadgets, the young hero was finally offered a spot to be an Avenger in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Iron Spider suit was unveiled for the first time, while it was also revealed that Tony Stark was back with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) in the same move. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios staged its most shocking ending since Avengers: Infinity War in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In it, J.K. Simmons made his return as J. Jonah Jameson (albeit a different version) and broadcasted a video of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealing Peter's secret superhero identity as Spider-Man. This functions as the narrative jumping point for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The upcoming Jon Watts-directed movie doesn't dwell much on this particular plot point since Peter and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) need to deal with the arrival of the multiversal threats instead. But, based on the very first set images that made their way online for the threequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home's story might actually end with the resolution of Spider-Man: Far From Home's cliffhanger ending. In the photos, Peter is seen nervously trying to talk to MJ (Zendaya) who's working at a coffee shop with Ned (Jacob Batalon). After entering the cafe, he seems to back out of his plan, opting to just get his coffee order. While it's uncertain what their actual interaction is, this suggests that MJ doesn't have any recollections of her relationship with Peter. The young hero is clearly well-aware of this, otherwise he would have no reason to be so apprehensive about approaching her given everything they've been through.

Doctor Strange casts a spell for Peter Parker in Spider-Man No Way Home

This implies that Doctor Strange's original spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home eventually works. On the heels of Peter's superhero identity getting outed, not to mention being framed for the death of Mysterio, he reached out to the sorcerer in the hopes that he can undo the villain's malicious revelation. But while Doctor Strange is willing to help, his tampered spell makes things worse as it accidentally opens up Earth to threats from other universes. This preoccupies both heroes throughout the film. But assuming that they go back to the Spider-Man: No Way Home's original premise, ending it with Peter getting his initial wish about the world forgetting that he is Spider-Man is a great way to wrap up not just the movie, but Spider-Man's first MCU's trilogy in general. It also sets up a more interesting future for the character since Sony has already confirmed that more Spider-Man movies are in the works with Marvel Studios.

There was a lot of apprehension from critics when it became clear that Spider-Man: No Way Home will tackle the multiverse. This is especially true since Spider-Man: Far From Home clearly set up an entirely different threequel. But ending the new film with the world forgetting that Peter Parker is Spider-Man ensures that amidst all the other moving elements in the movie, its story is still clearly focused on Holland's hero.
