Spider-Man: No Way Home provides fans with so much exciting content that most viewers overlook a crucial hint about Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) current whereabouts. In a film rife with nostalgia and a multiversal crisis, it can be easy to see how a fleeting comment about Nick Fury can get overshadowed. Still, it hints at exciting future projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The post-credit scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home reveals that Skrull leader, Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), has been impersonating Nick Fury while he is off-world in space. This revelation has created the question of how long Talos has been impersonating Fury and why he is currently in space. Additionally, there have been some theories that Nick Fury has been a Skrull this entire time, with fans pointing out a shift in his behavior following the events of Captain Marvel. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home has seemingly put these ideas to rest.

The start of Spider-Man: No Way Home shows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) dealing with the aftermath of Mysterio's (Jake Gyllenhaal) death in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In a scene where The Department of Damage Control is questioning Peter, he proclaims that Nick Fury can back up his innocence. This prompts a brief response from a Damage Control employee, Agent Cleary (Arian Moayed), who informs Peter that Nick Fury has been off-world for a year, confirming that Cleary knows Fury's whereabouts. This new disclosure means Fury's departure into space can be placed around the time after Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) funeral in Avengers: Endgame. Either way, it sets up some exciting new storylines for Nick Fury, especially with his confirmed upcoming Phase 4 appearances such as Secret Invasion.

Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury and Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is set to appear on Disney+ later this year; however, there remains the question of how Marvel will adapt the infamous comic book storyline for the MCU. The Secret Invasion comic centers on Skrulls who are invading Earth and impersonating heroes and politicians alike, ultimately causing havoc. However, given the events of Captain Marvel and the alliance between Fury and Talos, it seems likely that the MCU will have to twist its current narrative slightly. Skrulls are now good guys in the MCU, which makes it less likely that Secret Invasion will aim to portray them in a negative light.

It wouldn't be surprising if the mystery surrounding Fury's current endeavors is due to other opportunistic Skrulls using the Blip to their advantage. In fact, Secret Invasion will reportedly take place during the Blip, which now questions Fury's involvement, considering he was a snap victim. The Skrulls could peacefully be attempting to forge a new life for themselves under the guise of notable figures, but not before the government catches on. This could explain why The Department of Damage Control is aware of Fury's current location in Spider-Man: No Way Home. His current intergalactic operation is public knowledge within the government, and he could be actively reporting in.

Therefore, it's entirely plausible that Skrulls began to make their way to Earth in the aftermath of Thanos's snap. Perhaps they have always been there, potentially even disguised as beloved Marvel characters. While the MCU won't spoil what Fury has been up to until the events of Secret Invasion following his Spider-Man: No Way Home mention, it's going to be hard to trust anyone in the universe, with more Skrull imposters likely to reveal themselves down the line.
