Update: Read our full Spider-Man No Way Home trailer breakdown!

Sony releases the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer. Tom Holland's third solo outing as Peter Parker will be his sixth appearance in an MCU movie when it hits theaters in December, following his debut in Captain America: Civil War, his two previous standalone films and the two most recent Avengers flicks. After a short period when it looked like Holland's Spider-Man would leave the MCU, Marvel Studios and Disney struck a new deal with Sony Pictures for the upcoming third solo movie.

Now titled Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film picks up after the events of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, which ended with Peter being outed to the world as Spider-Man by J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) and being framed for the murder of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Keeping with MCU tradition, Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature a prominent Marvel hero, this time Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. The movie will also include characters from past Spidey franchises, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy, and Jamie Foxx's Electro from Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man movies. There have also been rumors of both Maguire and Garfield appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, though Sony and Holland have refuted those reports. All told, Spider-Man: No Way Home is gearing up to be one of the biggest movies of the year.

As such, Sony released the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, which can be viewed below. In addition to featuring Holland's Spider-Man and Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer features five villains from past Spidey franchises, including Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman (played in by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3) and Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans in The Amazing Spider-Man). Also returning are Peter Parker's best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), girlfriend MJ (Zendaya), Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and friend Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). Why Spider-Man: No Way Home's Trailer Didn't Reveal Maguire & Garfield

What Is Lizard Jumping At In The Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer?

The first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer only fully revealed Doc Ock and it teased the other four villains, but this second trailer shows all five of the antagonists. Doc Ock's metal tentacles are on display, showcased as he battles Holland's Spider-Man. Green Goblin can also be seen this time, instead of just his pumpkin bombs. Further, Foxx's redesigned Electro, who now has a more comics accurate costume, is shown demonstrating his powers, while both Sandman and Lizard do the same as they face off with Spidey on a scaffolding structure. All told, this Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer reveals plenty of looks at the villains, and even teases tension between Peter and Doctor Strange as they disagree over how to handle the multiversal antagonists.

Still, perhaps just as notable as the inclusion of the villains is the exclusion of Maguire and Garfield, who have been reported to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sony, Holland, and Garfield have all vehemently denied those reports, but there is still an expectation that they will appear in in the final film. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has even tried to temper those expectations, but they remain - and likely will even without this Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer confirming their involvement. After all, villains from their universes are going to appear in the movie; it makes sense that Holland's Peter Parker would need help in facing down those five villains, and if he and Doctor Strange are on the outs, Maguire and Garfield would be the perfect allies. For now, though, it remains to be seen whether that crossover comes to pass when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters next month.
