Spider-Man: No Way Home secretly revealed what happened to Peter Parker's former love interest Liz Toomes (Laura Harrier). Although Zendaya's MCU MJ has become the primary love interest for Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that is not how his story started. Spider-Man: Homecoming featured him crushing hard on Liz Toomes, who he did not realize was the daughter of Vulture (Michael Keaton). She was last seen moving to Oregon after her father's arrest.

The events of Spider-Man: Far From Home did not leave room for Liz to return, as Peter's focus was on pursuing MJ and trying to stop Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) after mourning Iron Man's death. She did not return in Spider-Man: No Way Home either, as the film picked up directly after Mysterio revealed Spider-Man's secret identity to the world. While the movie does deal with the fallout of this revelation, the focus is primarily kept on how the revelation affects Peter, Aunt May, MJ, and Ned Leeds. But those still wondering what became of Liz Toomes were left unsatisfied.

One Easter egg in Spider-Man: No Way Home did provide an answer to her fate after Spider-Man: Homecoming. Following the shocking revelation that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, it appears that Liz Toomes took part in many interviews about her past relationship with him. She is featured on the cover of various magazines featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which includes Liz calling Peter a liar. Liz and Peter did not end on great terms since he stood her up at the school dance, but she also now knows that he was responsible for locking Vulture away in prison–and now, apparently, he may even be in another universe according to Morbius' post-credits scene.

Will Laura Harrier's Liz Return In MCU Spider-Man 4?

Spider-Man No Way Home Liz Toomes Easter Egg SR

After Spider-Man: No Way Home shared Liz's thoughts on Peter Parker being Spider-Man, the Easter egg could be meant to tease her return in the next movie. Marvel Studios and Sony are in the early stages of planning Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland, and it is expected that MJ and Ned will once again play major roles in the sequel. Liz Toomes could make a return in Spider-Man 4 as well. It is not known if she was snapped by Thanos, but it is possible that she moves back to New York and crosses paths with Peter Parker once again. Of course, she will not remember any of their past since Doctor Strange's spell wiped everyone's memory of Peter.

Finding a place for Laura Harrier's Liz in Spider-Man 4 could be a bit difficult, though. Vulture leaving the MCU in Morbius' post-credits scene means her father exists in a completely different universe. Unless she and Peter cross paths as they try to figure out where Adrian Toomes went, Liz might not have much to add to Spider-Man's MCU narrative beyond repeating their romantic attempt. The most fun option for Liz's return after Spider-Man: No Way Home could see Spider-Man 4 build on the multiverse story threads to transform Laura Harrier's character into Firestar, a multiverse version of Liz who is a mutant.
