Why Spider-Man's Red & Gold NWH Costume Is Called The "Integrated Suit"

Spider-Man will have a brand new suit in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and is labeled by Marvel as the “integrated suit” – and here’s why it's called like that. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 will reunite fans with some beloved heroes and introduce new ones as well, and its different from previous phases as it covers both TV shows and movies and is introducing a bunch of new concepts and events. The biggest one is that of the multiverse, which was explained in more detail in Loki and will be further explored in upcoming movies, and it all points at Spider-Man: No Way Home being among them.

The web-slinger is coming back with his third solo movie, which follows the “home” theme it has been playing with so far but might give it a potentially obscure twist. Plot details on Spider-Man: No Way Home are still a secret, but the confirmed return of Jammie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, along with the presence of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), point at Peter’s new adventure dealing with the multiverse and its different timelines, and he might get trapped in it. Given the magnitude of this adventure, Spider-Man’s suit had to go through some changes, as it also did in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but this time, it seems to have a completely different type of enhancement.

While fans wait for a teaser or trailer to arrive and reveal some bits of the story, Marvel has shared the first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home merch, and among all the toys are some of Spider-Man’s new suit, called “integrated suit”. Peter’s new suit has the same basic design as his iconic costume and the same colors except for the addition of gold. Although none of these toys has a description that could offer some insight into the story and the suit, the name is enough to hint at a number of things, and it’s all rooted in Peter’s new “mentor” and guide: Doctor Strange, as the suit seems to be integrated with some kind of magic that only he could summon.

Spider-Man’s “integrated suit” includes golden lines across the rib cage and chest that meet right at the middle in what looks like a Tao Mandala, the protective shields used by the Masters of the Mystic Arts (and which they collectively used during the Battle of Earth to protect themselves). This seems to connect with other parts of the suit, especially the hands, as one of the toys is holding something that also looks like a Tao Mandala, suggesting this is all thanks to an integration of magic from Doctor Strange himself. Other toys see Spider-Man throwing what looks like blasts of energy or magic (given the color and shape) and a possible shield for the chest, further hinting at him now being protected by magic rather than technology. Of course, the biggest question is why Spider-Man would need a suit integrated with magic, and this could link to the multiverse as he would certainly need more than advanced tech to move through different timelines – and who better than Doctor Strange to show him how.

The “integrated suit” can reveal a lot more than it seems, and it makes the wait for Spider-Man: No Way Home even more exciting as there are lots of questions waiting to be answered, including what the dynamics between Peter and Strange will be like and how the latter will impact the former’s superhero persona.
