A now-viral photo appears to show Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire the night they snuck into a movie theater to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home. The two actors reprised their Sony roles in the latest MCU movie, swinging into action alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man when it was released in theaters on December 17, 2021. Maguire famously made his iconic big-screen debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2002) before playing the character two more times in 2004 and 2007. Following the decision to abandon plans for Spider-Man 4, Garfield inherited Maguire’s mantle in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).

Garfield's take on Spider-Man was mostly well-received. However, the 2014 sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was met with lackluster reception and ultimately led to the deal between Sony and Disney/Marvel Studios to cast Holland and bring Spider-Man into the MCU via Captain America: Civil War (2016). Now, the final film in Holland’s Homecoming trilogy sees Garfield and Maguire’s respective Spider-Men make their return—the MCU’s not-so-best-kept secret. This week, after months of denying his involvement with No Way Home, Garfield finally spoke about his experience making the film. On top of that, he revealed he and Maguire snuck into a screening of No Way Home on opening night.

Those who saw No Way Home opening night or on the weekend no doubt found themselves among a cheering audience more than once. By uniting three generations of Spider-Man villains and heroes, No Way Home is truly a unique film, paying homage to Spidey and superhero cinema. Not only does No Way Home bring back Maguire and Garfield, but it awards them closure and redemption in a way that negates gimmick. The latter is especially true for Garfield, whose hero generally wasn't as revered as Maguire's. Following No Way Home’s premiere, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 began to trend on Twitter, with fans expressing a desire to see more of Garfield’s iteration of both Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Garfield has expressed admiration for his portrayal in Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as the bonds he’s now forged with Maguire and Holland. Referring to that Spidey brotherhood, Garfield revealed that he improvised a fan-favorite moment in the film where he tells the other Spider-Men, “I love you guys.” The actor has also said he’s definitely open to returning as Spider-Man if it felt right. If and when that happens, whether it be in a Sony film like Morbius or the MCU, it’ll be hard to top the film that saw him fight alongside Maguire and Holland.
