Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version!

There is a brand new Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits scene included in The More Fun Stuff Version extended cut that shows how effective Doctor Strange's memory-wiping spell was. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for including at least one bonus scene with the credits of each movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home continued the tradition by including a mid-credits scene with Tom Hardy's Venom, while the final tease was the first Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer. These tags have been changed for the first time in the MCU's history, as Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version has a new post-credits scene.

Sony and Marvel Studios re-released the third solo film starring Tom Holland nearly eight months after it debuted in December 2021. The Spider-Man: No Way Home extended cut new footage spans the entirety of the movie. Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire do a short intro for the film, while a variety of new scenes are included throughout. The additional scenes range from quick jokes and extended versions of sequences audiences already saw to entirely new moments. All of this provides a new experience for viewers, even if they have seen the MCU blockbuster multiple times. Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version's new post-credits scene allows that experience to continue until the end.

There are no changes made to Tom Hardy's appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home's mid-credits scene. It still ends with Hardy sent back to Sony's VenomVerse and a piece of the symbiote remaining in the MCU. However, the Doctor Strange 2 trailer does not play after the credits finish rolling this time around. Instead of just leaving out the trailer for a movie that already was released, Sony went a step further and replaced it, giving Spider-Man: No Way Home's extended cut a new credits scene.

Spider-Man: No Way Home's New Post-Credits Scene Shows Peter Parker Erased From History

Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider-Man No Way Home

The focus of Spider-Man: No Way Home's new post-credits scene is on how Peter Parker has been erased from history. The scene begins with an announcement at Midtown School reminding seniors to pick up their graduation photos. This indicates that the scene takes place months after Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending, as the movie wrapped up in December 2024, but graduation for Midtown School would be May or June 2025. After a short segment about cafeteria safety, a new edition of "Betty's Corner with Betty Brant" begins playing that recaps their high school years. The segment includes videos and photos from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, all the footage and pictures are missing Peter Parker.

The first recognizable moment in the Spider-Man: No Way Home extended cut's new post-credits scene is from Homecoming. Liz Toomes, Ned Leeds, and the rest of Midtown's decathlon team are standing outside the bus. Peter joined them at the last second before, but the video does not show him. After a group photo of Betty and some classmates from Homecoming, Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell are shown from Far From Home. This is where the most important part of Spider-Man: No Way Home's new post-credits scene happens. A group photo of everyone in Europe appears, and while Peter Parker is standing in the middle of the group, his face is obscured by a pigeon flying right in front of it. More footage of the students' time in Europe is shown, including running from Mysterio's attacks.

As the post-credits scene footage shifts back to Homecoming, Ned and MJ are shown hanging out together at the Homecoming dance. There is then a video of Ned in the hallway talking to Peter, but his back is turned to the camera, once again obscuring his face from any recordings. Peter is once again just out of the frame of the next shot that includes MJ, Liz, Ned, Betty, and Flash Thompson posing for a photo. A few more quick videos are shown as Betty says, "As we look out onto an exciting and uncertain future, just remember the memories we made here at Midtown High are the ones we will cherish forever." It is a final reminder that while Peter might remember all of these memories fondly, no one else remembers him. Betty Brant then gives her final signoff to end Spider-Man: No Way Home's new post-credits scene.

How Spider-Man: No Way Home's New Post-Credits Scene Changes Doctor Strange's Memory Spell

Spiderman no way home doctor strange spell more tragic

May of Spider-Man: No Way Home's biggest unanswered questions revolved around how Doctor Strange's memory spell actually worked. The spell helped everyone forget that Peter Parker ever existed, but Spider-Man and his relationships were seemingly still intact. It pointed to a completely different way for the MCU's events to unfold, but Spider-Man: No Way Home did not have the time to fully explore how Doctor Strange's spell changed the timeline. Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version's post-credits scene helps clarify the lengths Doctor Strange's magic went to erase Peter Parker from history.

It was already known that people did not have any memories of Peter Parker after Doctor Strange's spell, but now it is confirmed that photographic or video evidence of him has been altered. However, it appears that Peter was still technically present for all the events he experienced. Using the Europe trip photo as an example, Spider-Man: No Way Home's new post-credits scene confirms that Peter was there but that no one remembers that part. They could be confused upon seeing someone standing in the middle of the group, but they will not be able to recognize him thanks to the perfectly placed pigeon. An oddity with this reveal is that there should not be a photo of Peter and Tony Stark that could help inspire Iron Man to crack Avengers: Endgame's time travel. It also creates a heartbreaking detail for Peter Parker's life, as it should mean there are no longer any photos of him with Aunt May, Uncle Ben, his friends, and so on for him to look at and keep.

No Way Home's More Fun Stuff Version Post-Credits Sets Up Spider-Man 4

The Spider-Man No Way Home Ending sees Peter, Ned and MJ say goodbye

The Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version new post-credits scene does help set up Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland. The studios have already announced their intention to make Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6 with Holland in the lead. While the first film has yet to be confirmed, Spider-Man: No Way Home created a mostly blank slate for a new trilogy. On top of the tease for Holland's Spider-Man encountering the Venom symbiote, the More Fun Stuff Version post-credits further the Spider-Man 4 setup by showing more of Doctor Strange's spell's consequences. Holland's Peter Parker will have a more difficult time getting people to remember who he is now that almost any evidence of their past interactions have been erased.

No Way Home's New Post-Credits Scene Is Way Better Than Doctor Strange 2's Trailer

Doctor Strange on the street looking worried

It is safe to say that Spider-Man: No Way Home's extended cut's new post-credits scene is a better fit than the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer. When Spider-Man: No Way Home first hit theaters, it was somewhat understandable why Marvel Studios put the trailer out in this fashion. Doctor Strange 2 was just a few months away from being released, but the marketing campaign could not begin until after No Way Home thanks to Doctor Strange's role in the multiverse events. The trailer immediately gave MCU viewers a chance to see what was coming next. While that might have been good for the grand scheme of the MCU machine, Doctor Strange 2 had little to do with Spider-Man: No Way Home at the end of the day.

Thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home's extended cut, the movie now has a post-credits scene related to the same story. Seeing some ramifications of Doctor Strange's spell and how people forget that Peter Parker existed is fascinating and could have helped alleviate some questions months ago. In reality, the new scene always should have been Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene. The last time Marvel used a trailer as an MCU post-credits scene was over a decade ago when Captain America: The First Avenger included a teaser for The Avengers after the credits, which made sense considering the movie's ending teed up the ensemble film. Since the same was not true for Doctor Strange 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home's extended cut's credits scene is better and should have been included the first time.
