Warning! Spoilers ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Doctor Strange may have been able to easily defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin) if he used the spell he cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home in Avengers: Infinity War. Benedict Cumberbatch's MCU sorcerer recently joined Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) latest adventure. The wall-crawler reached out to the wizard as he struggled with the ramifications of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealing his superhero identity in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

With Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Peter's first mentor in the MCU, gone, Spider-Man sought out Doctor Strange instead. Strange is the only other Avenger Spider-Man has had a personal relationship with, after the pair worked closely in Avengers: Infinity War. In a desperate move, Peter asked the sorcerer to make the public forget about his superhero persona. While it was possible, the fact that Doctor Strange no longer has the Time Stone made things a little trickier. The sorcerer was forced to cast a dangerous spell, which, unfortunately, was corrupted due to Peter's repeated meddling. However, it is supposed that the wizard would've been able to resolve the young hero's problem in Spider-Man: No Way Home if he was able to properly execute the spell.

With this established, a new Marvel fan-art from Reddit user u/FictionFantom suggests that had Doctor Strange cast the same spell in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos would've been defeated faster. All the wizard needed to do was to make the Mad Titan forget about his misguided goal to kill half of the universe for the sake of balance. The art is jokingly titled "Alternate Infinity War ending." Check out the post below:

Ever since Avengers: Infinity War came to theaters, it has been dissected countless times by fans. Its complex narrative makes it very interesting for fans who like to come up with "What if?" scenarios, and this Spider-Man: No Way Home scene is one of them. When the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick came out, no one knew that Doctor Strange was able to cast this kind of spell, so nobody suggested it. But now that it's confirmed to be part of his arsenal, it's easy to retroactively apply Strange's ability to previous scenarios in the MCU. Discussions about this particular alternate ending are fun, but from a storytelling perspective, it shouldn't be used to tear down Avengers: Infinity War and how it shaped the Infinity Saga and the MCU.

With regard to Marvel canon, casting the spell clearly has ramifications. And while Doctor Strange and Spider-Man were able to handle the arrival of multiversal villains in the main MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's yet to be seen what other inadvertent consequences the sorcerer's actions may have created. If anything, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' teaser hints that Doctor Strange's multiverse-related problems are far from over. Unfortunately, he'll once again have to deal with it all without the Time Stone after he gave it up in Avengers: Infinity War, which will no doubt lead to some more dire consequences.
