A fan edit of Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Deadpool target Peter Parker’s shockingly average lawyer, Matt Murdock. Marvel Studios and Sony’s third entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Homecoming trilogy follows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after the web slinger’s identity was revealed to the world in Spider-Man: Far From Home. When Peter goes to Doctor Strange for help undoing this, the subsequent spell invites iconic villains from Sony’s past, along with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, to Earth-616. As Phase 4’s first multiversal blockbuster, No Way Home paves the way for a handful of familiar characters to become a part of the MCU - not least of which is Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

Before Stephen Strange’s spell goes awry or Ned Leeds uses his sling ring to open portals, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil helps Peter with his Mysterio-related legal troubles in No Way Home. In the film’s first act, Murdock visits Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau, who played Foggy Nelson in 2003’s Daredevil), Aunt May, and Peter to tell the latter the charges against him aren’t going to stick. However, he’ll still have to deal with the court of public opinion. Just then, a brick smashes into May’s apartment and is promptly caught by Daredevil, because he’s a “really good lawyer.”

After Disney ended its relationship with Netflix and ABC, characters in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Defenders Universe fell under the control of Marvel Studios, which allows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the Punisher, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to officially (re-)join the MCU. While Marvel Studios’ partnership with Sony made it possible for Maguire and Garfield to appear in No Way Home, Disney’s acquisition of Fox also brings the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool under the MCU’s umbrella. Following Reynolds’s tongue-in-cheek MCU debut alongside Korg to promote Free Guy, fans expect the Merc with a Mouth could appear in any project. Unfortunately, he did not make it into No Way Home or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Deadpool 2’s post-credits scenes saw its titular character right past wrongs, including Reynolds’ approval of Green Lantern’s script and his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His official MCU debut will be in the R-rated movie Deadpool 3, the first such project for Marvel Studios. Given the character’s irreverence and meta nature, it’s not hard to imagine him messing with multiple timelines and/or events. While he may never be revealed as the one who threw that brick in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans will always have this shockingly hilarious (and characteristically apt) edit.
