A new development emerges in the saga of Andrew Garfield's involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home as a video claims to reveal how his set photo was faked. This December's Spider-Man: No Way Home just might be the most discussed and debated movie of the year, with much of the conversation revolving around its cast list. Over the past year, reports have emerged that various actors from past Spider-Man movies will appear in the film. Spider-Man 2's Alfred Molina already popped up in the No Way Home trailer, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Jamie Foxx confirmed his involvement last year.

The two actors under most scrutiny are Tobey Maguire and Garfield. It's the latter who has received special attention in the past week as he begins promoting his fall movies. Garfield has repeatedly denied appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, even as a supposedly leaked set video revealed him on set. Most recently, Garfield insisted the video and its accompanying picture were photoshopped, though not many fans have believed him. Even the actor knows his efforts are a bit futile; just last week, Garfield admitted he knows he can't convince everyone.

Now a new development has emerged... somewhat. On Tuesday, VFX artist Alex Cerrato shared a video online claiming it reveals how he photoshopped the Garfield video. The minute-long clip breaks down the deepfake process, which mainly involves applying Garfield's face to a Spider-Man's body. See for yourself down below.

A quick glance at the comments shows that not many people believe Cerrato's claim. Some have found holes in the deepfake process, while others question where the Spider-Man body came from in the first place. Nevertheless, this video does demonstrate how editing can be used to manufacture images, which could lend some additional support to Garfield's assertion that the image in question was fake. The above video still won't do much to stop fans from believing that Garfield is in Spider-Man: No Way Home, though.

Marvel actors have a history of claiming not to be involved with a particular project, only to then reveal they were lying. Recent examples include Tatiana Maslany with She-Hulk and Jonathan Majors with Loki. When remembering that, Garfield's own denials about Spider-Man: No Way Home don't mean much. At the same time, it might be best to avoid getting one's hopes up too high. Spider-Man: No Way Home is already saddled with some pretty massive expectations, and as Garfield himself has warned, fans could end up disappointing themselves in the end. At this point, only the movie itself can clear up all these wild rumors.
