Andrew Garfield admits he had fun lying to fans about his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor portrayed Peter Parker in the 2012 and 2014 The Amazing Spider-Man films and most recently made his return as Peter 3 in No Way Home. The news of his return, alongside Tobey Maguire's Peter was a hard-kept but also a badly-kept secret among audiences who were already preparing to see the return of many of the duo's infamous villains.

Garfield has since become very well-known for his efforts to deny his No Way Home appearance. In countless interviews leading up to the premiere of the film, Garfield was faced with the question that he always vehemently denied. Even after footage of Garfield in his Spider-Man suit circulated the Internet, the actor refused to give in and continued to insist that he wouldn't be a part of the film. That at least kept viewers questioning whether or not he and Maguire really would step back into their roles for No Way Home, and made Peter 3's now iconic entrance through a portal even more exhilarating for viewers.

Now, Garfield has revealed that he had some fun lying to viewers about his No Way Home appearance. In an interview with The View to promote his latest series, Under the Banner of Heaven, Garfield was faced with the truth of his bold-faced lies, to which he initially responded with "and I'd do it again." When he was offered the chance to go more in depth as to why he faithfully kept up his campaign of vehement denial, Garfield likened the experience to "planning a surprise party" and admitted that it was "kinda fun to do." The laughs that Garfield gets out of it each time he's faced with it now surely makes it worth it, especially as he now often claims he's "ruined [his] reputation" for telling the truth. See his full quote below:

"The company makes you do it, but also, it's kinda fun to do. It's like you're planning a surprise party for people and they're like 'Tell us the surprise is happening' and you're like 'There's no surprise party.' I did it for you."

Andrew Garfield holds Tobey up and says goodbye to 616 Peter

Despite the leaks and other hints that seemed to point very strongly towards Garfield's No Way Home appearance, his character's return to the screen surely was a surprise for many viewers. Audiences continue to enjoy reminiscing on the excitement of Peter 3 walking through Ned's portal, with many people catching the moment of theaters full of loud and thunderous cheering on video. The appearance serves Garfield and his version of Spider-Man the perfect justice in terms of him being the only version of the character who never got a full trilogy. Tom Holland took on the Spider-Man mantle in Captain America: Civil War just two years after the release of Garfield's second The Amazing Spider-Man film.

Garfield has now managed to not only make his No Way Home appearance iconic, but also his campaign of lies leading up to the film. When actors and actresses are faced with difficult questions about whether or not they'll be participating in certain roles or projects, they have often referred to Garfield directly to assure interviewers how serious they are when they say no. All of this has since led to even more appreciation for Garfield and his craft, to the point of audiences even demanding that his Amazing Spider-Man trilogy be finished. Whether or not that will happen is as of yet unknown, but the adventures of Spider-Man will surely live on, especially as Holland's moves into a brand-new era following the events of No Way Home.
