WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Andrew Garfield confirmed the story on Twitter of a delivery driver bringing him food while he was secretly in Atlanta filming Spider-Man: No Way Home. Garfield played Spider-Man in two Amazing Spider-Man installments in 2012 and 2014 before Sony decided to cast Tom Holland and move the character over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This abrupt ending to Garfield's iteration of Spider-Man left a lot of loose ends for this iteration of the masked hero, leaving many to hope Garfield would eventually return to the role.

Before No Way Home was released, it was heavily rumored that Garfield and Tobey Maguire would reprise their roles as Peter Parker in the film. Still, Marvel Studios refused to confirm either actor's return until the movie hit theaters. Garfield recently revealed that he enjoyed lying about his involvement in the web-slinger's latest blockbuster. He secretly spent some time in Atlanta filming his scenes and made sure word did not get out that he was there. The secrecy was almost shattered when a Twitter user claimed to have made a DoorDash delivery to the star, confirming he was in Atlanta while No Way Home was filming.

However, Garfield recently confirmed the DoorDash encounter on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. On his first night in Atlanta, Garfield's DoorDash delivery driver asked for an ID, claiming that he had purchased alcohol. Garfield did not order any alcohol and did not see a reason to present an ID to the driver. However, the driver was insistent, forcing Garfield to ask his friend to show his ID to end the interaction.

"This is my first night in Atlanta, and I'm with two of my best friends, one of whom is on The Walking Dead, which shoots out there, and we're out at in the house that they're putting me up in, and I ordered takeout for us, and COVID is high, and I order food. It's literally my first night there, and it's great. I get to wear a mask everywhere. I get to wear a hat. Nobody's ever going to know I'm here, and I'm going to really be low-key and whatnot. So the guy comes to the door, the delivery guy -- sweet seeming guy, nice seeming dude -- and I open the door, I've got my mask on, my hat, and I'm like, 'Thanks, man.'

And he's like, 'yo, yo, yo, I need to see your ID.' And I'm like 'Huh?' He's like, 'I need to see your ID.' And I'm like, 'No delivery food thing has ever asked me for my ID. This is interesting.' And by the way, he's like, kind of like really close to the door, and at this point, I'm super like, I've got to go to set tomorrow. I don't want to risk shutting down a Marvel set in the middle of a pandemic. So I'm just like, 'Sure, just one second. Would you mind just like stepping a few feet back because of COVID and everything,' and he does. I'm like, 'Sorry, man, why do you need my ID?' 'So I can check that it's you.'

First of all, my DoorDash account is not my name. And he's like, 'Yeah, 'cause you got alcohol.' And I'm like, 'No, I didn't get alcohol. I didn't get any alcohol, man. I got some tacos.' Lo and behold the guy goes, 'I just I think I just delivered food to Andrew Garfield,' and I think he called me rude, which I definitely wasn't. I did ask to do social distancing, but I obviously upset the man and I didn't mean to and I apologize for anything that may have been misconstrued as being rude. I don't like upsetting people, but it just became this whole thing, and then I think he got in trouble. I don't know, whatever. But wherever you are, I know what you were up to. You were being sneaky, and you gave me a good challenge that night."

After the interaction, the delivery driver went to his now-defunct Twitter account to complain about how rude he thought Garfield was to him. A screenshot from @CultureCrave reveals the conversation, where the driver (@DrnBerry) states he "just delivered food to that n---- who played Spider-Man in 2014. Andrew Garfield! Bra rude." A Garfield fan account asked, "So he's in Spider-Man 3 then?" According to the screenwriters, Andrew Garfield signed on halfway into filming, and the Twitter screenshot states this happened on January 21, 2021. This was well after production began on the film in October 2021. Meaning the speculation that followed Garfield's appearance in Atlanta was one hundred percent correct.

Garfield (and Maguire) had a nearly impossible task in keeping their No Way Home involvement a secret from the rabid fanbase that was analyzing every potential clue. While it was good for Garfield to keep his distance from the driver to preserve COVID protocols on set, he had no way of knowing this particular driver would run to the internet to confirm Garfield's appearance in Atlanta. It is unfortunate that the driver would ask for an ID when not necessary, just to confirm that the man was Garfield, but this kind of thing can happen to high-profile celebrities. Despite this incident, many were still surprised by Garfield and Maguire's appearance in No Way HomeHowever, even if Marvel or Sony had confirmed the two stars, their roles in the movie's story would probably have still taken most audiences by surprise. It also seems that Garfield and Maguire had a good time keeping secrets even after the film was released as they got to sneak into an opening night showing together.
