Warning: Minor SPOILER for Symbiote Spider-Man: Alien Reality #1
The fan-favorite villainess Black Cat has gone through many changes, from a thief to a crime boss in New York City, to a vigilante hero with flexible morals, and now acting as a good guy in her own solo comic series. Now Black Cat is going through her biggest change yet in the pages of Symbiote Spider-Man, and it's not just her hair color.
Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat is best known for her rocky past with Spider-Man, evolving from rivals to romantic partners to their current status as heroes with a mutual respect for one another. But along that journey from foe to friend, they were also everything in between (and more than once). Black Cat even proposed to Spider-Man to throw him off guard (while also taking a playful shot at Batman's proposal in DC Comics). But things are about to get even stranger, now that Marvel has offered a glimpse of Symbiote Spider-Man: Alien Reality, and its new, redhead version of Black Cat.
The new miniseries from Peter David and Greg Land begins this December, showing untold stories from the days when Spider-Man first wore his iconic symbiote suit. The preview from CBR shows the beginning of the first issue, opening with Spider-Man in a fight with his long time foe Kraven the Hunter. But just as Spidey gets the upper hand, Kraven morphs into a much more timid form of himself, showing genuine concern for a distraught and confused Spider-Man. It seems Peter is transported to another reality, in which Kraven is not only a hero, but Spider-Man's partner.
A confused Spider-Man then takes off in his Spider-Mobile to apparently get his bearings. Which is right when he spots the Black Cat on a nearby rooftop. Excited to speak with someone who could give him some answers, Peter rushes to her side... only to find a new version of black Cat, with a familiar hairstyle. Take a look for yourselves:
The Black Cat Spider-Man was expecting to find is obviously known for her striking white hair (the most noticeable difference with this alternate version). This new Black Cat makes it obvious she isn't Felicia, but her flirtatious response may suggest that in this reality, Black Cat and Spidey also have a complicated chemistry. The preview ends before fans can get a sense of the danger or overall mystery, not to mention if this new Black Cat will spell trouble for Peter or not. But fans already know... he's a sucker for redheads. These questions will be answered when the miniseries begins this December, but check out the official credits and plot details below:
