After reprising the role of J. Jonah Jameson in last year's Spider-Man: Far From Home, J.K. Simmons hints that the character may, indeed, have an ongoing role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Simmons has had a long and storied career in Hollywood, from his first major TV role, as the terrifying Nazi Vernon Schillinger in HBO's Oz, to his Oscar-winning role as the equally terrifying jazz band leader Terrence Fletcher in Whiplash. But he is best known for his character-defining turn as the outrageous and intimidating J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.

Simmons reprised the role in a surprise cameo during one of the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home, playing a now-bald version of the character who works as the host of an Info Wars-type spin on The Daily Bugle. Simmons brought his trademark ferocity and humor to the cameo, which involved him outing Tom Holland's Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Fans reacted with glee when Simmons appeared as Jameson at the end of the film, and have since speculated about whether he would return in any capacity in future MCU movies. Simmons himself said the prospect was a possibility in May.

Now, Simmons has again teased his future as Jameson in the MCU, telling Collider in a recent interview that he's "very optimistic" he'll be showing up as Jameson in future Spider-Man movies. Although the actor refrained from saying anything concrete about another possible reprisal, he did say that there have been conversations about future Jameson MCU appearances:

There is a distinct chance, there have been discussions, and I’m not going to say anything definitive [laughter] because I don’t know if I’m allowed to. But yes, I’m very optimistic that I’ll have some more J.J.J. in my future.

Of course, Simmons is fooling no one by playing coy about his return, considering that he announced in June that his next appearance as J. Jonah Jameson has already been shot. But, clearly, he's been told to be more circumspect since then, given Marvel's spoiler-averse culture. Regardless, it's clear that Simmons is excited to return to the role, and may appear in more than one upcoming movie. Could he undertake a role as a conspiracy theorist in the MCU, given his Info Wars-style show in the Spider-Man: Far From Home cameo? If so, it's entirely possible he could become irritating to more MCU heroes than just Peter in future films.

While he doesn't reveal which movie he may appear in next, it's likely to be the still-untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming 3. Hopefully, the role is more substantial this time around, and Jameson can continue to be a thorn in the side of Holland's Parker, in much the same way he was for Tobey Maguire's Peter in the Raimi trilogy. It's no less than Simmons deserves, given that he seems to take such delight in portraying the character, and is still so well-suited to the role.
