No Way Home producer Amy Pascal says she won't make any Spider-Man movies without Tom Holland. Other actors have donned the Spider-Man mask on the big screen before, but Holland's tenure is by far the longest. He first stepped into the role for the 2016 movie Captain America: Civil War, thus bridging the gap between Marvel Studios and Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU like fans had always wanted. Since then, Holland has appeared in five different MCU movies as Spider-Man; his sixth, Spider-Man: No Way Home, will arrive in theaters next month.

Beyond that, though, his future is unclear. Holland has said he isn't contracted for any movies at the current moment, and that he views No Way Home as the end of a franchise. At the same time, even as Spider-Man's immediate way forward remains a mystery, Sony presses ahead in creating its own Marvel universe. There are currently two movies on the way set within this world: Next year's Morbius and 2023's Kraven the Hunter. There could also be another Venom in the works, though the post-credits scene for the recent Let There Be Carnage actually brings the anti-hero over to the MCU.

As part of a new GQ profile on Holland, Spider-Man producer and former Sony chairperson Amy Pascal commented on whether she will ever make more movies centered on the webslinger, but without Holland in the lead role. Pascal rejected the idea almost immediately, instead revealing she's shared her interest in doing many more movies with him. "I’ve talked to him about doing, like, 100 more," she said. "I’m never going to make Spider-Man movies without him. Are you kidding me?"

Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch in Spider-Man No Way Home

There's still a lot of love for past Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, but it's hard to deny that Holland's portrayal has received near-universal praise from the fanbase. Through his appearances in the MCU, Holland has breathed new life into the well-known character, and many aren't willing to see him step away from Spider-Man just yet. One only has to think back to the stressful time when Marvel and Sony split on Spider-Man to realize just how beloved Holland's iteration is. Therefore, it makes sense that Sony wouldn't be interested in moving forward with the character without him.

And yet, this doesn't provide much clarity to Holland's future as Spider-Man. It could just be that Sony's Marvel universe will focus on the villains that populate Spidey's world rather than the hero himself. To be sure, that would be an odd move, and probably not one fans would appreciate. But if Spider-Man: No Way Home truly is the end for Holland, then there are other avenues for Sony and Pascal to take. For the time being, everyone can rest easy in the knowledge that Spider-Man likely won't be recast if Holland doesn't return. At least, not just yet. This is Hollywood, after all.
