Emma Stone becomes Spider-Gwen in a new piece of Amazing Spider-Man fan art. Stone played Gwen Stacy in both Amazing Spider-Man movies opposite Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, acting as the love interest and something of a secondary lead. The two films put special attention on Gwen and Peter's relationship. Gwen was a bright spot in the Amazing Spider-Man films, which were not as well-received as Sam Raimi's trilogy. However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 took a moment straight from the comics and killed Gwen during Peter's final battle with the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan).

In the comics, Gwen was initially only portrayed as Peter's girlfriend. However, recent years saw an alternate version of Gwen become Spider-Gwen after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Since then, Spider-Gwen has become a fan favorite version of the character through multiple comic appearances. Spider-Gwen made her cinematic debut in 2018's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as one of the people from alternate realities Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) meets. She has yet to appear in a live-action film.

Still, there are plenty of people who are interested in seeing Spider-Gwen in live-action form, including artist Pablo. In this new piece of fan art, Stone's Gwen is transformed into Spider-Gwen, complete with a comics accurate suit (but minus the hood and mask). You can see the art for yourself in the space below.

Gwen's death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was disappointing for fans who enjoyed Stone's portrayal, and it left many feeling grateful that the third film never came to pass. Instead, Spider-Man lives on in the MCU, where he is currently played by Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Sony continues to develop its own Marvel universe with movies like Venom and MorbiusAdditionally, an Into the Spider-Verse sequel is on the way and slated for release in 2022.

At the same time, a female-led Into the Spider-Verse spin-off is reportedly in the works. It would feature Marvel Comics characters like Silk and Spider-Woman, while also bringing back Gwen (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld in Into the Spider-Verse). There haven't been many updates about that project, though fans are still hopeful it will actually happen. While it's a shame that Stone's Gwen didn't get the chance to fully suit up in the Amazing Spider-Man films, at least Spider-Gwen was still brought to the big screen in some form. Should Sony later decide to make a live-action Spider-Verse movie, there's no reason why it wouldn't include Spider-Gwen. She just sadly won't be played by Stone.
