Jared Leto reveals that he's confident Morbius will eventually fight Tom Holland's Spider-Man in a future film. After appearing as the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder's Justice League, Leto is set to appear once more in a superhero film with the upcoming Morbius, this time as the hero. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius will see Leto take on the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who accidentally infects himself with a form of vampirism while trying to cure himself of a rare blood disease.

Morbius marks another entry into Sony's Spider-Man Universe after the success of Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Initial trailers for Morbius have teased a darker, horror-inspired take on the superhero genre, with Morbius acting as more of an anti-hero than a more typical superhero. In addition to Leto, the film also stars Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, and Michael Keaton. After numerous delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Morbius is finally set to hit theaters early next month.

In a new Screen Rant exclusive interview, Leto reveals that he's confident that Morbius will one day square off against Holland's Spider-Man. "Holland and I have a date with destiny," Leto says, before praising Holland's acting talent and his portrayal as Spider-Man. Leto explains that "it would be great to get in the ring with him" at some point down the line. Check out Leto's full comment below:

"Well, I think Tom Holland and I have a date with destiny. By the way, just a phenomenal actor, and what a great Spider-Man. I really think he's just a terrific talent. But it would be great to get in the ring with him and go head to head."

Spider-Man: No Way Home shattered box office records and introduced the multiverse into the MCU. Not only does the film make Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movies canon, but it also officially introduces Tom Hardy's Venom into the MCU. Like Morbius and Venom, Spider-Man is technically a Sony property, with the hero appearing in the MCU due to agreements between Sony and Marvel. As such, there are no legal hurdles to one day seeing Morbius and Spider-Man eventually face off. Spider-Man even appears in some graffiti in the Morbius trailer, although it doesn't appear to be Holland's version of the character.

Of course, with Spider-Man: No Way Home having concluded Holland's Homecoming trilogy, the future of Holland as Spider-Man is somewhat unclear. The star has given conflicting answers about whether he's open to playing the character again, explaining that he's not quite done being Spider-Man just yet but also that he wants to take a break from acting for a while. If Holland is open to returning, however, and Morbius is at least a moderate hit at the box office, it's certainly possible that Leto will get his wish and he will eventually get to face off against Holland's Spider-Man. Morbius is scheduled to release in theaters on April 1.
