Gamers enjoying the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales have been seeing something rather strange: trash cans, lamps, and other inanimate objects swinging through the streets of New York, instead of the webbed superhero himself. It's an odd situation made odder by the lack of explanation over why it is happening.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a pseudo-sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man. It spotlights Miles's first time as a solo hero in New York City and introduces the game series to a new villain in the form of the Tinkerer. Spider-Man: Miles Morales also added new abilities to take advantage of Miles's Venom Power, and did a great job of showcasing Miles as a local neighborhood superhero. It even lets players recruit a cat to their crime-fighting arsenal. The only downside seems to be that the game is relatively short, easily completed in 15 hours or less, even with side quest material.

But since Spider-Man: Miles Morales' launch, more and more videos have appeared on the internet of players encountering a weird bug. In each instance, the model of Spider-Man is replaced with a random object from the game. The game is still otherwise completely playable, resulting in Spider-Man: Miles Morales being full of web-swinging bricks, lamps, dumpsters, and more. The bug appears to only last until players reload the game, at which point the correct Spider-Man model reappears.

What Causes the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Lamp Bug?

So far, there's been no official word from Sony as to what's causing Spider-Man: Miles Morales' current gameplay bug, or if a fix is on the way. Players themselves have not been able to figure out what triggers the wrong model being loaded, meaning that, for the moment, the bug happens to players at random. One post on Reddit speculates that the bug might be the result of a coding error that is causing Spider-Man: Miles Morales to randomly assign a model to Spider-Man, which is why the objects Spider-Man turns into have little consistency.

As the bug doesn't appear to render the Spider-Man: Miles Morales' story unplayable and is easily fixed with a reload, the internet is a bit torn on if they actually want the bug fixed at all. Many are enjoying the videos of random objects swinging through the skies and saving civilians from criminals. To some, the image of a super-powered dumpster just seems a natural fit for 2020, and a few are even asking for Sony to make the bug an official mod in the future, so that players can become a crime-fighting brick at will. Most of the delight in the bug, though, seems to derive from the randomness at which it occurs, which might suck some of the joy out of being Spectacular Swinging Lamp in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
