Tom Holland Reacts To Spider-Man Return News With Wolf Of Wall Street

Tom Holland reacts to the news of Spider-Man's return to the MCU by posting a Wolf of Wall Street clip on social media. Joining the mega franchise back in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War, Holland portrayed Peter Parker in a total of five MCU installments to date, including two solo outings. His most recent appearance, Spider-Man: Far From Home, received positive reviews and became Sony's highest-grossing film of all-time, leading many fans to believe Sony and Disney's partnership was thriving and would continue to be that way for a long time.

Then, in a surprise twist, it was revealed Marvel Studios would no longer be involved with the production of future Spider-Man movies. Sony and Disney attempted to iron out a new deal, but couldn't agree on the terms. That left Peter Parker (and Holland) out of the MCU as the franchise entered Phase 4. Many fans hoped the two sides would reconvene to work something out, and those prayers were answered today. Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 is indeed going to be part of the MCU. As one might expect, Holland is thrilled about this turn of events.

Taking to Instagram, Holland celebrated the Spider-Man news by sharing a clip from Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. In the film, this scene comes at a point when Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) has to choose between striking a deal with the SEC and leaving Stratton Oakmont or remaining with the brokerage house. To the delight of his co-workers, Jordan proclaims, "I'm not f***ing leaving!" - a sentiment Holland shares in regard to his role in the MCU. Holland's co-star Zendaya was also pleased by the development.

Many people were upset when it was reported back in August Spider-Man was leaving the MCU, so movie fans probably had a similar (or the same) reaction as Holland to today's news. In his short time in the franchise, Holland's take on Peter Parker became a fan-favorite and has largely been defined by his relationships with other MCU characters. Considering how embedded the character was in the MCU and the multitude of unresolved storylines dangling in the wake of Far From Home's jaw-dropping finale, it would have been a disastrous turn of events if Marvel couldn't use Spider-Man anymore. Sony seemed set, preparing to integrate Peter into their villains universe, but that may have to wait for the time being. Holland, who was extremely grateful of all the love MCU fans gave him, is no doubt celebrating he's still an Avenger.

Not only will Spider-Man Homecoming 3 be a part of the MCU's Phase 4 when it premieres in July 2021, the plan is for Holland to appear in a future upcoming Marvel Studios film as well, a la his roles in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Since there are no obvious places for a Peter Parker role in any of the confirmed MCU movies (outside Homecoming 3, of course), it's likely Holland's seventh appearance in the MCU is being saved for another team-up movie, possibly Avengers 5. Since that won't be ready for another few years, Holland is definitely here to stay in the MCU, and hopefully is never in danger of leaving again.
