Warning: This article spoils the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home

The new suit for Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man is confirmed to be inspired by those of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions. Holland made his latest appearance as the friendly neighborhood hero in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third solo-outing for his character within Marvel Studios' universe of films and TV series. The movie from director Jon Watts released theatrically on December 17 to critical acclaim and remarkable box office success, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time despite the ongoing pandemic.

The plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home hinges on the multiverse storytelling device, with a Doctor Strange spell-gone-wrong accidentally summoning characters from previous Spider-Man franchises into the MCU. This created the opportunity for all three live action versions of Peter Parker to share the screen, bringing back Maguire and Garfield after their franchises ended in 2007 and 2014, respectively. Though the previous two were used to working alone, Holland's hero gets them working together as a team, and the experience proves therapeutic for each of them.

Now, it seems that the experience left a mark on the MCU's Peter that he will carry with him into his future heroism. According to the No Way Home screenplay released online (via Deadline), the blue-and-red suit Holland wears as he swings out into New York City is "new for him, but reminiscent of suits he's seen before." This appears to confirm that Peter's new design is inspired by the suits from The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man franchises.

Marvel's Spider-Man No Way Home Ending Suit Mod

No Way Home leaves the MCU's Spider-Man in an unusual place, and one of uncertainty for Marvel fans. When Doctor Strange is left unable to contain his rogue spell, threatening the fabric of their universe, Peter gives him permission to cast a new one that erases all memory of Peter Parker. With his Aunt May dead and his friends unaware he exists, he gets himself an apartment and is able to live as Spider-Man unencumbered by the worry that his actions will put loved ones in danger.

While doing press for No Way Home, Holland has been cagey about whether he'll return as Spider-Man in the MCU, suggesting that he might be ready to move on from the character. This ending is designed to give him an out, though fans will surely hoping he returns, as he has been one of the franchise's most popular actors since his introduction in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. If he does appear in another Marvel Studios project, it looks like he'll be doing so looking a lot more like Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men than he did before.
