Kirsten Dunst says there's still time for her to return as Mary Jane Watson in a future Spider-Man project though notes she knows of no plans. Dunst first brought the webslinger's iconic love interest to life in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man as Peter Parker's next-door neighbor who aspires to be a Broadway actress. Though unable to achieve her goal in the first film, MJ would see her dream come true in Spider-Man 2 as the lead of The Importance of Being Earnest while subsequently struggling as she loses her role in Spider-Man 3.

Dunst's MJ was romantically attached to a number of other men in Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy before Peter, some of whom include Joe Manganiello's Flash Thompson, James Franco's Harry Osborn and Daniel Gillies' John Jameson. Though receiving some mixed reviews for the damsel-in-distress portrayal of the character, Dunst's MJ would generally receive largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for the believable chemistry she shared with Tobey Maguire and capturing the spirit of the comics. Though Dunst ultimately didn't return for the multiverse happy Spider-Man: No Way Home, she isn't ruling out another MJ performance.

While speaking with Deadline for their Actor's Side series, Kirsten Dunst opened up about her potential Mary Jane Spider-Man return. Though clarifying she's not heard of any talks for her beloved character to return, Dunst says there's still time to bring her MJ back to the big screen. See what Dunst said below:

"There's still time. I mean, listen, no one's asked me about anything, but I do think that, I mean, this Multi Universe keeps going on and on so I feel like that could happen. I know nothing, by the way."

On the heels of news breaking that Alfred Molina would be reprising his role of Doctor Octopus for Spider-Man: No Way Home, reports began swirling that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would reprise their webslinging roles along with Dunst and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. In the lead up to the film's release, many of the cast and crew behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel downplayed reports of the past actors' returns with Dunst herself also stating a month ahead of time that she had not returned for MJ in the film. Though word of Maguire and Garfield's returns would prove to be true upon Spider-Man: No Way Home's record-breaking debut, Dunst was proven to be telling the truth with her absence.

Despite disappointment that she wasn't in the film, Dunst's openness for a Mary Jane return in a future Spider-Man project should bring some hope for audiences who were doubtful of Maguire and Garfield's returns prior to No Way Home. Dunst has previously expressed an interest in playing MJ in the MCU while the success of No Way Home has led to fans campaigning for both Raimi/Maguire and Garfield's respective Spider-Man franchises to continue alongside Tom Holland's MCU series. While audiences await word of Dunst's potential MJ return, they can look forward to bringing home Maguire and Garfield's with Spider-Man: No Way Home hitting digital platforms on March 22 followed by 4K Ultra-HD, DVD and Blu-ray on April 12.
