Sony Pictures Chairperson Amy Pascal confirms a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 update is coming soon as production continues on the film. The first film hit theaters in 2018 from directing team Bob Perischetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman with a script from Rothman and producer Phil LordSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse centered on Miles Morales as he begins developing spider-like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider, though finds his world flipped upside down when the doors to the multiverse are opened, bringing various other Spider-People to his universe and teaming up with them to save New York City from the Kingpin.

Featuring an ensemble cast led by Shameik Moore as Miles, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a critical and commercial smash upon its release. The film would haul in over $375 million against its $90 million budget and win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the first non-Disney/Pixar film to do so since 2011's Rango and the first since 2006's Happy Feet when a Disney/Pixar film was competing for the prize. Development on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 was confirmed prior to the film's release and now an exciting new update has arrived for the project.

As tickets went on sale for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Pascal sat down with Fandango to discuss Sony's plans for the webslinger. When asked about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, Pascal confirmed that an update is right around the corner and expressed her excitement for the project. See what Pascal said below:

"It’s going to be fantastic. We have something to show on that very soon."

All of the Spider-Men in Spider-Verse

Pascal's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 update may not spill as many beans as some are hoping, but her confirmation that the studio has "something to show on that very soon" is very promising. Many details surrounding the film are currently up in the air outside of the confirmation that the story will further explore the relationship between Miles and Gwen that began in the first film. While a studio executive's tease that an upcoming project is "going to be fantastic" may not come as much of a surprise, the sequel certainly has a lot in its favor as Lord has returned to pen the script with writing/producing partner Christopher Miller and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' David Callaham.

Though "very soon" can mean anything from days to months, there are certainly plenty of opportunities to give the first look or a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 update in the near future. With both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Morbius hitting theaters in the next couple of months and footage having been shown at CinemaCon, chances seem high that a teaser trailer or clip could be attached to one of the upcoming theatrical releases. Only time will tell when the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel arrives on December 17 followed by the Jared Leto-led Sony's Spider-Man Universe outing on January 28.
