Spider-Man: Homecoming star Michael Mando says that the end credits scene between him and Michael Keaton was shot during an actual prison riot. Mando made his one and only MCU appearance (thus far) in Homecoming as the criminal Mac Gargan – a character who is known in the comics by his villainous alias, Scorpion. Shortly after Homecoming released in 2017, rumors began to circulate that the Scorpion would take center stage as one of the primary antagonists in the ensuing MCU Spider-Man films. However, between Mysterio's (Jake Gyllenhaal) antics in Spider-Man: Far From Home and the multiversal conflicts in Spider-Man: No Way Home, this has yet to come to fruition.

The end credits scene in question depicts Gargan pressing Adrian Toomes (Keaton) for the secret identity of Spider-Man (Tom Holland) as they pass by each other in prison. Earlier in the film, Spider-Man had ambushed Gargan and his cronies aboard a boat in one of Homecoming's most memorable action sequences, leaving Gargan with a nasty facial wound. Gargan, seeking vengeance, now wants to know the web-slinger's identity in order to retaliate for his grievous facial wound. In a surprising twist, Toomes, who serves as the film's main antagonist, lies to Gargan and keeps Peter Parker's name under wraps.

In a recent interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Mando reveals that the "whole [end credits scene] was voiceover"; a decision that had to be made due to the fact that the scene was filmed in the midst of an actual prison riot. According to Mando, "we couldn't hear – people were screaming [...] while we were doing the scene." Check out the actor's full comments below:

The final edit is a true testament to the thoroughness of the film's sound crew. If not for Mando's admission, the dialogue (and presumably added Foley sound effects) fits seamlessly with the recorded footage. Unfortunately, despite the chilling tease, fans will likely have several more years to wait before Gargan takes up the mantle as the MCU's incarnation of the Scorpion.

Some Spider-Man fans have expressed disappointment in the MCU's version of the character as they feel that he is depicted as a sidekick to more established heroes, or otherwise spends too much time outside of his domain of New York City. These fans desire a more grounded take on the character – one that lives up to the title, "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." With No Way Home likely marking a shift in the character's status quo, it's possible that Holland's Spider-Man might soon become the ground-level hero that these fans want to see. Such a context would be the perfect opportunity to bring back Mando in his Spider-Man: Homecoming role. Spider-Man versus the Scorpion will certainly be a thrilling match-up to see.
