The upcoming MCU Disney+ show Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be a fresh and stylish animated outing for the iconic web-slinger, Peter Parker. Taking inspiration from numerous Spider-Man adaptations, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was initially believed to be part of the main MCU timeline, but 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con revealed that this isn’t quite the case. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - formerly known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year - will be a unique take on one of Marvel’s most famous superheroes, with surprising connections to the MCU. Spider-Man is seen by many as Marvel’s flagship character, with decades of comic books capturing the imaginations of readers and inspiring numerous adaptations to film and television.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced its own version of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, in Captain America: Civil War, which only referenced the web-slinger’s iconic origin story in passing. For a time, it appeared that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man would finally explore this skipped portion of the MCU Spider-Man’s history. Marvel Studios’ animation panel at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con revealed numerous exciting details about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, including its premise, cast, and release window. Although heavily inspired by the MCU, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will explore the life of a new version of Peter Parker, though those familiar with Tom Holland’s iteration will see many parallels between the two web-slingers.

The Latest Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man News

The most noteworthy Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man news so far revolves around its new name, as it was revealed in December 2023 that the show's name had been changed from Spider-Man: Freshman Year to the new Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man title. This announcement came alongside the exciting tease of a new "proto-suit" for Peter Parker, as the show will apparently feature a new design for the iconic Marvel hero, based on reports of the footage audiences got a preview of during a special screening of What If...? season 2.

Reportedly, the new actor set to play Marvel's own Spider-Man is also confirmed, as Spider-Man: Freshman Year copyright listings seem to cast Hudson Thames as the voice talent for the animated Peter Parker - though this could be subject to change given the ongoing strikes. However, if this listing does hold true, this also means a selection of other actors have also been confirmed for their respective roles in the series. Sadly, Tom Holland will reportedly not be in the upcoming animated series (via The Illuminerdi), but actor Charlie Cox will be voicing Daredevil, and Paul F. Thompkins will be playing the Marvel villain the Wizard.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Release Date

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was officially confirmed during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. The newest Spider-Man cartoon will be written by executive producer Jeff Trammel, and is already in the early stages of production. However, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is still quite a long way away from releasing, as the current scheduled release date is November 2024 - and that is presuming the series doesn't see delays as a result of the strikes delaying the overall MCU production timelines.

The overall MCU timeline appears to have been updated to reflect a new schedule after the strikes ended, which suggests that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will keep its current release date.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Cast

Tom Holland is slated to appear in more Spider-Man movies, but will reportedly not be voicing Peter Parker in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. However, there are many other Spider-Man voice actors who could easily take his place. Currently, Hudson Thames, who voices Spider-Man in Marvel’s What If…?, is named on the copyright listings for the series, though this doesn't mean he is definitively in the role, as the ongoing strikes mean certain aspects of the show may see changes upon negotiations being met.

That said, a number of actors have been named to be the current Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man cast, should the copyright listings prove to be the final castings. If this were the case, then Kari Wahlgren would play Aunt May, Zeno Robinson would play Harry Osborn, Hugh Dancy would play Otto Octavius, Grace Song would play Nico Minoru, and Eugene Byrd would play Lonnie Lincoln. As it stands, though, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man only has confirmed two other confirmed voice actors. Bentley Wittman, Marvel villain The Wizard, will be voiced by Paul F. Tompkins, in addition to Charlie Cox reprising his role as the MCU’s Daredevil.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Story Details

Spider-Man Freshman Year Peter Parker

Taking inspiration from the early Silver Age Spider-Man comics and the many Spider-Man screen adaptations, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will explore the beginning of Peter Parker’s superhero career. Not only will the series have him face off against classic Spider-Man foes like Doctor Octopus and Chameleon, but it will also feature Norman Osborn taking on a mentor role for Peter Parker, just as Tony Stark did in the MCU. This cements Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as being set in a different universe to the MCU, though it seemingly has many parallels to it, suggesting it could be similar to the alternate realities shown in What If…?
