The Spider-Man: Far From Home Blu-ray description still seems to hide the fact that Mysterio is the main villain in the movie. In Far From Home, Mysterio convinces everyone he is a superhero from an alternate earth. Mysterio is so convincing he even gets recruited to be an Avenger by Nick Fury to help fight off the strange Elementals attacking the planet. Even Peter Parker trusts the mysterious stranger, and he begins looking up to Mysterio as a sort of mentor.
The big surprise twist in Far From Home comes later. The movie eventually reveals Mysterio is not who he says he is. Instead, he's a villain who is responsible for the Elementals, which are projections created by his vast army of drones. However, for anyone paying attention, it's no surprise Mysterio is a villain. He has always been a villain in Marvel Comics, and Spider-Man: Far From Home billboards even accidentally seemed to spoil this twist. Spider-Man does eventually take Mysterio down. However, it's Mysterio who gets the last word in the film.
By now, it's mostly common knowledge Mysterio is the villain in Far From Home. But some might find it interesting that the Spider-Man: Far From Home Blu-ray release still chooses to keep that knowledge a secret. The synopsis is written in such a way that it paints Mysterio as just another superhero. Here is the official description:
Tom Holland returns as everyone’s favorite web-slinger in SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, the next chapter after Spider-Man: Homecoming. Our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plans to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks! Spider-Man and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) join forces to fight the havoc unleashed across the continent but all is not as it seems.
Of course, there are far more pressing matters in the Spider-Man universe. After Marvel and Sony failed to reach a deal over the character, Spider-Man officially lost his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This situation leaves a lot of Spider-Man's MCU storylines unresolved, including plot details in Far From Home. The web slinger's future might currently seem a little murky. However, Spider-Man star Tom Holland still believes Spider-Man will prevail under Sony's umbrella.
Far From Home may very well be the last Spider-Man movie set in the MCU. With the Blu-ray release, the company seems to want to connect with those who know little about the character's history who have not yet seen the movie. That is a potentially small margin of fans, though, since Far From Home was a success at the box office, both with its initial release and its recent re-release. It's also highly likely that those who haven't seen the film are probably already aware of Mysterio's status as the film's villain. Many might find it strange the Spider-Man: Far From Home Blu-ray release would advertise itself differently.
